Following on from the headers thread. How about the most unexpected goals.

Quinton Fortune. Largely useless for us - except for that time when he bent one into the top bin from 25 yards out against Ipswich.

Leo FW at Hull, turning & smashing one in the top bin from a similar distance. Before the celebrations there was a brief pause while we all just looked at each other & weighed up if it really just happened?

Remember Mike Smith scoring of the back of his heel the keeper tried to punt it clear it hit Smith on the ankle/foot & rebounded into the empty net

Remember a goal scored from Rovers half from a Jack Ashurst free kick - it was the days of a big lump free kick into the opposition area and hope for a flick on etc, however as soon as big Jack hit the free kick skywards a gust of wind took hold of the ball and carried it way over the keepers head into the back of the net at the Rosso End, Belle Vue

Micky Norbury. I don't think he had scored all season and then he got a hat-trick at Scunny.

Copps at Brentford. The most unexpected goal by the most expected goalscorer. That should not have happened but wouldn't have been anyone else either.

Favourite one of these though has to be Graeme Lee at Scunny. Was about his second game I think and he's smashed that volley into the top corner in the last minute.

Elliot Ward overhead kick away at Sheffield Wednesday.. Debut goal from a centre half and won't get much better!

The late Rod Johnson at Halifax.
Their keeper kicked the ball out of his hands straight at Rod who stuck his leg out and in it went.
RIP Rod.

Great goal. From a centre back as well. How many centre backs have scored that sort of goal.

You are correct there Wilts. He scored twice that season after Scunthorpe, in away defeats at Gillingham and Wigan, but not previously.

As many will remember, a very young David Beckham scored his first professional goal against us, in our 2-2 draw against Preston at Deepdale in March that season.

James husband with a mis-hit cross from the left wing, vs Blackburn (?)

Yates (?) similar vs god knows who at BV mid 80s..

Curtis Main scoring one of the best, if not the best ever goals at the KM vs Bristol City.

Dave Mulligan screamer of a volley at Oakwell in front of the away end 2005/6 - the day two of theirs got red cards for fouls on Copps..

Steve Lister running from his own penalty area to bury one in the goal stanchion at BV - perhaps vs Scunthorpe very early 80s..

And duplicated from the headed goals thread, Hugh Dowd from the D vs Exeter circa 1981..

The Husband goal was 16 August 2013 - first game I think Tommy Spurr played back against us.

The one against Bristol Rovers at Belle Vue where the goalie blasted it at MacIndoes arse and rebounded in? Superb and funny at the same time.

Can't believe no-one has mentioned Harry Forrester against Bury - the one where he was 'trying' to give the ball back after an injury.
