2013 all over again
« on January 12, 2020, 05:05:18 pm by Branton Rover »
With the defence we have now the best back 4 since Quinn, Jones, McCombe & Spurr. I really have a good feeling about the run in to come. DM is really showing he knows what he’s doing - I think the current back line is on a par with the team of ‘13. It’s been said elsewhere but this defence could a step up as a collective - age wise perfect, with plenty of improvement still to come. The board must see what we can & now is the time the proverbial boat should get pushed out to land us a number 9 & potentially can land us into the Championship once more -

I’m not at all suggesting we go mad with cash because I know we won’t however time is ripe to speculate to accumulate

I would throw into the mix that Dieng might just be a better keeper than Gary Woods as well...

The reason I didn’t include Dieng is because I was talking about contracted players not loanees - I’d wager should we advance up Seny would be our first signing

Can’t argue with that Branton.
That’s if he wants to stay with us.
Maybe he needs a song for him to make him feel really wanted.

He's got one now - the rather humorous "Dieng, Dieng, Dieng Dieng Dieng" one.

Now Tom Anderson, that's a player who deserves a good chant.

I haven’t heard the Dieng song mate so not sure how that one goes, to what tune?

As for big Tom, he should have the Andy Butler magic hat one now.
He deserves it.
Easy to adapt for him, just lengthen the word Tom to make the start of the song “Tohhhm Anderson is magic etc”.

Looks like same as Jan Butdz - 2 syllables repeated over and over

I hope we can keep Dieng because he is class but wouldn't be surprised if QPR have him as their number 1 next year. Hopefully not though because would be class to have a keeper of his quality on a permanent.

Totally agree about Anderson and the magic hat song

Is he better than Sulli though?
Sulli in his prime, probs not, but Sullivan with us, as a 40 year old. I'd go with seny.   Great feet, quick, amazing hands and distribution.  Plus hes a proper modern athlete.  With the greatest respect,  sulli was from a different generation....

The 2012/13 season that culminated with Brentford. We had a defence so good, so organised, so impenetrable, so solid, that we could afford 42 of the 46 league games to have Gary Woods in net. Sulli only played 4 league games that entire season - with Brentford of course being one of these.

Not yet but don’t forget Sully was a very experienced keeper when he came to us. 37yrs old i think and 42 when he finished.
So I would say Sully was the better all round keeper but only just. Deing is more agile as you would expect from a young keeper and in time will become a keeper of the highest quality. Could easily be a future Premier league keeper.
We need to do every thing we possibly can to get him on a permanent. As I have said previously if it costs £500.000 to get him it will be money well spent. We will get that back 3/4 fold in 2/3 years time imo.
He would save you 15/20 points a season and if and when we go up a league could be the difference in us staying up.
That in itself is worth another 5 million to the club.

Dieng is better than Sully and I'm talking about Sully during his whole time with us.

I see Dieng as a better shot stopper and much better with his feet.

Probably about level for commanding the box.

That's a huge compliment to Seny as well as Sully was great for us.

I agree with that. Perhaps Sully had a presence and experience that set him apart but there's no doubt for me that Seny is a better all rounder. Not seen Since Sam Johnstone.

It's a different ball game now than Sully's time but just as he raised the bar, so is Seny who's clued in to all aspects of a modem keeper.

He's enjoying his time here that's clear to See. If we want to see him next season then we knoe where we need to be.
