We did play like the 1970 Brazil team, but they're about 75 years old now.

Agree with what u said there Billy, personally I thought we were in the game up until they scored, then I felt we sort of went into our shell a bit, I thought the next 15/20 mins or so we were poor but finished the first half better! 2nd half I thought we looked more at the races, much better going forward and tbh I thought the goal for us was going to come at one point, but it never did and it is what it is! We lost, it’s not the end of the day, we don’t have a Devine right to win every game! We move on to the next game, which again will be a tough game! guaranteed there will be more losses and also more wins before this season is done with, and we will finish where we are suppose to this season!

hallelujah

Yep, good summary.

Worth a listen to DM's post match which is now up on the match thread.

There's a message there to all those who's patience is wafer thin.
We heard that it takes 3 years to build a team and he feels that after a few transfer windows and reshuffling the team we will get our chance. We hear in his tone of voice that he is getting fed up of being asked about transfers and it is up us if we think what he puts on the bench is good enough . So it’s not his fault we can only deduce a  from all this .

Don't think anyone minds if we lose to a better team but Coventry weren't that good we really need to sort out our set pieces.

Out of all our set plays I think maybe only 2 found one of our players.

Hopefully we won't play that bad again this season or have that many players have that many players have a bad game
No they wasn't that good we just laid down and let them do what they wanted

Fifty years I’ve been supporting this team and it still hurts like hell when we lose.

I was really disappointed as I left the stadium this evening because I felt we could have done better.

Coventry were a good team and actually the first half was a cracking game of football, with entertaining stuff from both sides.
I just had a feeling when Shipley scored that superb goal that we would really struggle to get back on terms.
One goal was always going to settle this game, as the cliche goes.

Second half I thought we huffed and puffed and although we had loads of possession, every one of our attacks fizzled out and we never really looked like scoring.

The final ten minutes were painful. We still had lots of possession but we seemed to totally run out of ideas and we showed no composure.

The cross-field ball in added time from Sheaf which went out for a throw-in to Coventry just about summed us up.

I understand completely what BST means in the OP, and I’m deliberately not reading any threads from the doom-mongers.
But I feel we have to be picking up points at home to the Sunderlands and Coventrys if we want to make the play-offs.

Ah well, I’ll make the journey to Sunderland next Friday and I really hope we do ourselves justice.

Darren Moore says people haven't identified who he is really looking at and that he is glad about that. So that being said he has obviously identified players so why are the board or whoever else is in charge of getting these deals done not getting it done. Other clubs get business concluded so why are we not?

On the flip side fellas, it was the 52nd minute before we had a shot on target, at home, really? & for the 2nd home game in a row I wasn't entertained. It's not the lack of effort, or the losing to an extent, it's the lack of poor passing & lack of quality where it matters, in the last third. We will, in my opinion, fall well short of the top six with the current squad. We offered absolutely nothing threat wise in the first half, & huffed & puffed 2nd half when Coventry sat in & let us have the ball. Two or 3 additions & we will have a chance, if not, plan for next season.

You’ll struggle to find anyone who’ll claim we played well today. I think the issue is that certain people turn it into an opportunity to slag off the board, manager, players, chips and beer, car parking etc.. anytime we don’t play like the Brazil 1982 team

Brazil farted in 1982 , a bit like us today.

Where has all this agent nonsense come from?
Nobody has ever suggested from the club that we’re not signing players because of agents
SM has never mentioned agents being an issue.
We’ve signed dozens of players over the last few years and agents haven’t been an issue.

Yet people now all of a sudden are saying agents are the reason we aren’t signing players.

Nonsense
Well i think it is a part of the problem.
Agents are holding out to get the best deal and are definitely a big problem in the game as a whole.
If you don’t want to believe it then that’s up to you.

Billy, you are 100% correct, and the sad thing is I think the regulars on here could write  the same names down in a sealed envelope before any game, and get most names correct if we lost the game.

No today was the ceiling that we can’t brake through . DRFC have no intentions of putting investment in the team only token gestures of loans and window shopping for targets that will not come any where near a penny pinching club like ours !!!

Go on then, I’ll bite. Explain why we are a “penny pinching club”.
Really !! Marquis money ?
Playing staff down to bare bones ,
Shrewsbury walked away from our offer inspite of risking player leaving in the summer that’s how low it was !
We are the only team in the EFL without a club No9 on the books.

SFB!
maybe not but maybe other teams are scoring more goals from other positions

I mean it could be worse, we could of lost 0-5 at home today like sheff Wednesday to a team that was on a very poor run of form, but we have not!! Onwards and upwards to the next game!
we were never in the game, but we'll I suppose you are right stating the obvious at 0-0 of course we would be as no one has scored

Not for the first time Rovers were far too slow and complacent and got brought down to earth. The performance was reminiscent of England's loss to Iceland at the 2016  Euros, only worse - We'd have lost to Tesco and Asda yesterday.

There was a ten minute spell just after half time where we had three excellent chances, and where we were really on top of the game.

Taylor burst into the box at an angle and had his bullet shot not been too close to Marosi it might have burst the net.

Then Copps breezed along the byline, chipped Marosi and their defender headed off the line.

Even Bingham managed to fashion himself a shot in the box which was on target but didn’t test Marosi.

As others have said, we were far from our best yesterday but that defeat was hardly the end of the world.

This is the only thread I have read today - I saw the “borefest” one last night where only an hour after the game ended someone had posted that the board should be sacked.

Exactly the meltdown I predicted on the lucky pint thread at the end of the game.

All the doom monger posters - and we know who they are - don’t realise they are stifling proper debate.  It is definitely correct to debate squad issues, player performances etc but some of the extreme viewpoints make the forum farcical.

Yesterday’s game went against us but we were in the game until the final whistle and had plenty of attaching intent, but it didn’t pay off.  Borefest  my arse.!!

Let’s be honest, if we were still playing now we wouldn’t have scored. Marosi didn’t need to make a single save. That’s very poor at home

Rovers played the whole game in first gear apart from a five-minute second-half spell of domination when they speeded up a bit. After that, they returned to first gear.

Coventry won the game in second gear.

Don’t disagree that they may be a problem in the game but it’s not the reason we’re failing to sign players at the moment.
Our stance hasn’t recently changed and we’ve previously managed

That 10 minute spell followed the last 10 mins if the first half, in which we had a clear penalty not given, and somehow contrived to miss a chance from 6 inches in front of the goal line (albeit that the ref incorrectly blew for a foul on Marosi, when he'd actually been blocked by three of his own defenders).

People saying that we never looked like scoring have some strange selective memories.

We were very close to scoring, but because we didn’t, folks have selective memories..

Had Taylor’s shot beaten Marosi I would expect us to have gone on to win the game..

Funny old game, innit.?

Whatever the results, whatever chances we create it doesn’t alter the fact that we need a goalscorer.
The whole side would transform with a proper number 9 with ennis off him

Those days happen.

I thought our passing was excellent and Coventry had to play a very high tempo press to contain it. For most of the first half, they WERE successful in containing us, but you could see it take a physical toll on them and they became less and less successful at pressing us as the game wore on. Ennis had possibly the poorest game I've seen him have for us, and our shots from 12-20 yards were poor. It happens. But to read disaster into yesterday is a depressingly predictable OTT response.

For what it's worth, I do think we will come up slightly short of the play-offs this year. I think we don't quite have the quality to overcome the physicality of a Coventry or a Sunderland. But as a work in progress, Moore is doing a superb job.

The Club is in a lot better position now than it was for the first 15 years of my Rovers supporting life. I think the trouble is a lot of our fans jumped on the bandwagon when the club was relaunched by John Ryan and all they’ve known is success, so when we’re not rolling teams over they just moan, they have unrealistic expectations and quite a lot of them are not very knowledgeable about football, don’t realise there’s 2 teams on the pitch.
After the summer we had I thought we might struggle to stay up this season, so I’m more than happy with the position we’re in. Yesterday we got beat by the better team, get over it, that’s football! We’re not a championship club, we never will be, Doncaster is a town full of glory supporting w@nk£rs!

I may be out of step here, but I think it's all down to perspective. It's only football.

I'm in to see my consultant urologist next week to find out the results of my PSA test.

Take time to enjoy what's around you, because you won't always be here.

Of course, there are far more important things in life than the fortunes of Doncaster Rovers, and irrespective of the opinions of both critics and worshippers of the clubs ruling body, football pales into insignificance in the scheme of things.

Hope all is well.
