As we approach Independence Day...
« on January 29, 2020, 03:13:50 pm by BillyStubbsTears »
...it's worth remembering what some of the unpatriotic surrender monkeys have said about us and the EU in the past.

Here's one.

"If Britain were to withdraw, we might imagine that we could regain complete national sovereignty. But it would, in fact, be an illusion. Our lives would be increasingly influenced by Europe, yet we would have no say in decisions that vitally affect us."

Thank God we don't have pathetic, traitorous snowflakes like that guiding us these days.

How was it Churchill? He died 8 years before we joined the EEC.

Ok. No sensible guesses?

It was Maggie Thatcher.

Read that again.

The Tory party would now expel Maggie Thatcher, it's moved so far to the Right.

The didn't.  It was done for the dipshits in the UK that lapped Farage's Brexit propaganda.

Billy, Churchill made a couple of speeches about Europe, The fear of the Soviet Union and communism concerned him military wise, and looked for military co-operation.
Churchills war would be a good book for you to read. Or you could watch on you tube the speech " Europe Unite" made in 1948. I thought it might have been by someone significant.

Billy there are four speeches by Churchill calling for a united Europe on you tube for you to look at. Nobody is denying it could have been a good idea with us at the helm, unfortunately the foreigners took his idea and morphed it into what it is today.

Aye, them pesky foreigners deciding to co-operate with each other instead of bowing down to us en bloc, eh?

Selby

My apologies. Thatcher's original quote was about us leaving the EEC. I thought I'd written that, but if incorrectly said "Europe".

Regarding Churchill, he was a passionate supporter of a United States of Europe. Which the EU isn't.  But you still criticise it, even though it's nothing like a USE that Churchill wanted.

There is so much wrong with this I don't know where to start.

I guess as good a place as any is the Churchill Archive with their run down on how Churchill saw a united Europe as the best way of ending conflict in Europe:
http://www.churchillarchive.com/collection-highlights/churchill-and-europe

and then the speech at Zurich University in 1946 from which this is the closing paragraph

I now sum up the propositions which are before you. Our constant aim must be to build and fortify the United Nations Organisation. Under and within that world concept we must re-create the European family in a regional structure called, it may be, the United States of Europe, and the first practical step will be to form a Council of Europe. If at first all the States of Europe are not willing or able to join a union we must nevertheless proceed to assemble and combine those who will and who can. The salvation of the common people of every race and every land from war and servitude must be established on solid foundations, and must be created by the readiness of all men and women to die rather than to submit to tyranny. In this urgent work France and Germany must take the lead together. Great Britain, the British Commonwealth of Nations, mighty America — and, I trust, Soviet Russia, for then indeed all would be well — must be the friends and sponsors of the new Europe and must champion its right to live. Therefore I say to you “Let Europe arise!”
