I still shake my head at that result. It was an absolute travesty.
If that game has taken place in Africa or South America the ref probably wouldn't have made it home.
Dave Kirson later explained how every goal that they scored was perfectly legitimate and we had nothing to complain about.😡

Agreed lads.
A disgusting exhibition by the officials, Russel in particular.
We all get upset when refereeing decisions go against us but I have the same opinion as Prez, that the outcome was possibly fixed.

If Mike Russell wasn't paid a vast sum of money to give Portsmouth victory in that game he bloody well should have been.

I think we were all disgusted that day-only saving grace we have had a reasonable record against Pompey since. Secret Footballer my arse- greedy b*stard if you read the book!

Definitely the most enraged I've ever been at a game. An utterly atrocious afternoon for us compounded by Kitson. The refereeing was diabolical and probably merited Russell losing his job on sheer incompetence alone.

I've always thought that if it was just down to sheer incompetence Russell's unbelievable decisions would have been given to both sides, and not just one-sidedly against Rovers. I can't think of any other reason for the display other than he was cheating.

To concede four goals and have doubts about the validity of all four must be a record I'd imagine.

I loved Harry Gration on Look North. Unfortunately Russell would be nowhere near to see his p**s take

Looked at Rate the Ref to see if I could post the link but it didnt start till late april 2012 - maybe as a result of the worst Refereeing display I have / had ever seen

He stood up and was doing a piece to Camera

He pulled off his Glasses and said something like " well I dont know about you but if I cant see I use a pair of these" and waved his Glasses at the Camera

He then proceeded to run through the mistakes Russell had made

It was great to see someone sticking up for us - and I wish I could find it somewhere

I'm addition to the 4 dodgy goals, do you remember Kitson having a swipe at Copps? Once agsin, unseen by any of the officials.

I was seething. I can accept we were always going down but that was a disgraceful way to go.

I seem to remember a few supporters chasing Kitson down the tunnel at the end.

I still haven't been able to watch a replay or highlights of that game due to the rage it would bring on again

Didn't he run along the west touchline kicking the advertising boards after the 4th goal?

Somebody looks to have done that already !

Seriously what an obvious travesty (bias) on several of those decisions.

What a pair of Kitsons - both Kitson and Russell are
