here is the link to the MOT Bible demands to "pass" the MOT
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/671818/mot-inspection-manual-for-classes-3-4-5-and-7-from-20-may-2018-draft.pdf
my question is about sections 1.14.1 and 1.15.1
i have tried to copy and paste 1.1.14 & 1.1.15
1.1.14
Brake discs and drums
A brake disc or drum must be obviously significantly worn before rejection is justified. Being worn
below the manufacturer’s recommended limits is not reason in itself
.
Defect
(a) Brake disc or drum:
(i) significantly and obviously worn
(ii) insecure, fractured or otherwise likely to fail.
(b) Contaminated with oil, grease etc. Major
(c) Missing. Dangerous
(d) Brake drum back plate insecure.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1.1.15 Brake cables, rods, levers and linkages
Defect Category
(a) Cable damaged or knotted. Major
(b) Component excessively worn or corroded. Major
(c) Cable, rod or joint insecure. Major
(d) Cable guide defective affecting operation. Major
(e) Restriction in free movement of the braking system. Major
(f) Abnormal movement of levers indicating maladjustment or excessive wear. Major
the car in question a Citroen 2010
1.1.14 has a qualifying statement in red
The car passed it's Mot in April 2020 after being off the road for 2 years 4 months
The MOT of April 2020 states 1.1.15 "nearside Brake Cable damaged but not to excess"
Not being an expert I interpret that the words in red do not apply to 1.1.15 and in my world I question whether the card should have failed the MOT
sorry i am not an expert on cars
Can someone please comment
Yes a fault is showing on the dashboard
