I have to say, I'm entirely in agreement with Williamson's plan outlined last week to change our ridiculous process whereby students get University places offered before they have taken their A-levels. That has always discriminated against kids from poorer, less, well-connected backgrounds, who as a result, don't get as many places in leading universities as their actual grades deserved. Education secretaries for years have avoided this issues because it requires a big shake-up to the annual timetable. But Williamson is doing it, and full credit to him for that.
