Earlier this year I moved into a bungalow which needs modernising, as I was mulling over the works to do I decided I would renovate one room at a time and look into every purchase I made to try and buy as much as possible from companies manufacturing in the UK. Although for example you can not buy a British made tumble drier I was quite surprised at the amount of things which we still do make here. Much of this tends to be at the higher end of the market but it is still possible for the normal person to buy high quality gear for not a great deal more than the usual Chinese tat.
The first two items I have bought, through necessity, have been a washing machine and a dehumidifier from a company called EBAC, based in Durham. Both have been excellent and I would highly recommend them. You can either order online or call the factory direct. No call centres, just straight through to helpful, knowledgeable staff.

As I go along I will add the details of any other British suppliers to the list as a reference to anyone else on here who is interested. After all if we don't buy our own products why should anyone else?

  I did the same Axholme for a Ebac washing machine, delivered when I was out due to them being earlier than expected, the two guys couldn't do enough and brought the machine right into the utility room.
  The quietest machine and best running machine we have had, also a quicker RPM spin than most in its price range, the company also make industrial pumps and their quality parts such as bearings reflect it.
  A brilliant product.
  Also a Blighty DAB pocket radio with a rechargeable battery I use when walking the dog which has outlasted the previous three or four foreign radios which used AAA batteries and probably cost more in batteries than this radio has and still going strong after about seven years use used at least three hours a day and doesn't lose the signal half as much as the other radios did on certain parts of my walks.
   The lads also got the pub to turn to a nice Chilean red wine in place of the the tat rioja red they were serving up.

I'm not so sure, but I do know the man in charge is extremely passionate about British manufacturing, so much so that the company has been gifted to a foundation so that it can never be sold or moved abroad. Fair play to the man, he is doing his best and I for one am proud to support him.

It's almost impossible to buy digital electronics from anywhere but SE Asia and China in particular. That was demonstrated at the start of the Covid crisis, as one by one manufacturers were forced to halt production as the supply of electronics manufactured in China dried up.

Circuit boards are a UK speciality, and there's no advantage in having them done in China as there's no labour content.

We never experienced that in our UK factory.

I've just bought a new oil fired boiler.

UK made, supposedly. The burner unit is made in Italy and other components are from the rest of the world. UK assembled would be closer to the mark.
