Recaptcha doing my head in
« on December 08, 2020, 04:37:09 pm by Donnywolf »
Browser Firefox

I have started getting Recaptcha puzzles - click all crosswalks - click all traffic lights etc - and while I am used to them I am not used to getting 24 in a row.

Usually get 1 or 2 tops - but for some reason they just keep coming back again and again. I gave up on Sainsburys earlier becasue I must have been at it for 30 attempts.

Any kind person suggest a way to nobble it - or get it back to 2 please ? Googling is difficult because whatever I put comes up with irrelevant stuff

Cheers

Update

I have defragged - disk cleaned - and gone back to a Restore Point and this has speeded up my PC a bit

However I go on Royal Mail to check whether a Letter I sent Monday has been signed for and I get the "Tick all squares with a Fire hydrant" recaptcha thing and although the number has gone down I have to solve at least 12 before it lets me in to the Site

That's very strange Wolfie, whenever I go on Sainsbury's, (which is at least twice a week as we're having our groceries delivered due to the Covid issue and that we're both in the high risk category), or RM Track & Trace, (at least twice a month), I never get presented with Capcha puzzles.  I also use Firefox as my browser of choice, so I have no idea why you are seeing this.

Some sites don't work with Firefox though, and when this happens I revert to Microsoft's Edge browser - seems to work with everything.  Might be worth trying Edge instead of Firefox to see if that makes any difference and if it does then the problem may well be with some settings in Firefox.

You’re missing a fire hydrant obviously

No - no VPN

Trying not to be totally useless I searched and read on Google that Sites might be being bombarded with things from my PC that they think are bots ?

So they put the Captcha things on. I used Mrs Wolfies I pad last night to look at Royal Mail Tracking letter and no Captchas came up - and then I thought aha use your Mobile so I did just now and got straight on. Earlier I had to "solve" 15 Puzzles when I tried my Laptop/PC so it seems to affirm that its my PC but god know why ?

I don't know Windows, but with Firefox there is a "refresh Firefox" option that might help.

There are instructions here;
https://www.myantispyware.com/2018/09/27/how-to-remove-captcha-verification-systems-pop-ups-chrome-firefox-ie-edge/

Scroll down to the Firefox section.
It will remove any customisations to the Firefox profile.

You don't say if you are running any add-ons...sometimes these might interfere with Google any their great information trawl!

Thanks albie

I will look at that later and give it a go for sure when I have time to try it slowly lol

On reading your Post I remembered that I installed what might be called an add on a few months ago - Adblocker ultimate". It was suggested to me on here as I was (like many I suppose) inundated with Adverts and for sure that cured them

They disappeared immediately and I havent missed them and (unless this problem is being caused by installing it) I have not noticed anything too different.

That said if I had to lose the Adblocker to get rid of the Recaptcha thing I would put up with the latter

So thanks again and I will try later and let you know how it goes

Cheers Wolfie

AdBlocker Ultimate
Amazon.co.uk
Bing   extension
Chambers (UK)
DuckDuckGo
DuckDuckGo Privacy Essentials
eBay   extension
Google   extension
Malwarebytes Browser Guard   extension
Wikipedia (en)   extension

I had a dabble before I left the Thread and found "Add ons" listed as follows

I recognise them all except Chambers (UK) and when I Googled I found it was (maybe) a Law Firm. Under the ID column on Troubleshooter it is listed as       chambers-en-GB@search.mozilla.org

Cant see why that is there but maybe isnt the problem - I have put some of them there like Adblocker - and Duck Duck Go to name 2 but not Chambers

the combination of adblocker / duckduckgo / malwarebytes could be messing with a number of things that trigger recaptcha to check you're not a bot.

And Google Chrome is the best browser to use, no argument :)

Cheers BJW - I started using Firefox after reading on here it was "the way to go" lol but mau give Chrome a try on your recommendation

I have had those 3 add ons for ages with the last Adblocker being on maybe 6 months but the Recaptcha problem has only sprung up in the last few days

Any way I can convince it that I am not a Bot at all ? Cheers JT

DW,

Google has a business model which gathers your data, then sells it on to advertisers.
An Adblocker disrupts this digital pimping, so that is the likely conflict.

Doing a "Refresh Firefox" will remove all add-ons.
See if this solves the capthcha issue then re-install them one by one, testing as you go.

It is worth having a second browser installed anyway, as an option.
You could try Brave, which has an internal adblock inside the browser;
https://brave.com/

I use Firefox Add-on UBlock Origin on Firefox to counter ads.
I don't know how it plays on Windows, because I prefer Linux as an OS.

Cheers albie = thanks for taking the trouble to reply again

I will try the above - maybe starting with taking the Adblocker off first as that was the last thing on and I didnt have this problem before that.

If it solves it great at least I will now what the problem is and will probably live with it because getting rid of the ads was the best thing I ever did

Cheers JT

Had a Windows download this morning and before removing Ad blocker I tried Royal Mail site again and from 30 Recaptchas 2 days ago and 15 yesterday today was NIL

Hoping it stays that way.. Maybe update "fixed" something?

DW,

Pleased to know you are sorted.
This sort of hassle is so annoying, particularly when you don't know the reason for it.

Always worth having a second browser in my view.
It allows you to see if the issue is specific to Firefox and its configuration on your computer.

Is that an easy thing to do ? I barely touch anything configuration wise and hate it when "they" do a drive by and change how my Email "looks" and works

I then have to try to get it back how it was (how I liked it) before eventually giving up then ignoring it and living with it till they change it next time

To be honest I didnt know you could have a second Browser !

Aye, just download your chosen option from their site for your system (Windows 10 for you, I think).

It operates independent of your Firefox set up, so just gives you another go-to if you have any probs with Firefox.
Lots of alternatives out there.

I mentioned Brave because it has its own adblock system, and it is a fast lightweight browser, based on Chromium architercture.
Here is the Wikipedia page;
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brave_(web_browser)

If it does not play well for you, just delete it from your system.
