It will be interesting to see our tactical approach to this game, The first goal is going to be massive to both sides, if they go one up do they continue to plug away with the same tactics, depending when in the game a goal is scored do they throw caution to the wind and go for an equaliser ASAP.
The teams taking the field at the start look very much evenly matched with Lincoln having probably more depth sat on the bench due to our injuries and dependence on young inexperienced players who have all performed brilliantly but when called on in in terms of actual game time at EFL level are just bairns.
It maybe too early for any of our new acquisitions  to be thrust into the fray, but may be able to come on in the later stages if needed. Both managers are very good at affecting the game tactically and from a supporters point of view the game has everything two good sides and a long history of being adversaries, and both teams in good form.
A game to look forward to.

One of the greatest ever (imo) goals scored at BV occurred in a game v Lincoln in Oct/nov 1990 - Neil Grayson's thunderbolt overhead/side volley on  the turn into the rosso end goal in a 1-0 win.

I am sure my memory is probably a little clouded but what an amazing strike it will always be in my mind! Lol

Hi Bob G. Remember that Boxing Day 1975 game against Lincoln. I "knew" we would get beat, as I had seen Brian Taylor (centre half from Middlesborough) on the Armthorpe bus on Christmas Eve, completely sozzled. I presumed he had not been out on his own.

This game has the potential to be the best game in league one this season

Brian Taylor... Now there's a football player to conjure with.

He was extremely adept at sneaking in to the near post whenever we had  corner. He scored quite a few goals with a simple near post flck. But his main job was centre half. And he was truly abominable.

Funny that. It was my first game that I went under my own steam with my mates, having only been with my parents previously.

Still got the newspaper cuttings from that and many future games in a scrapbook. I used to like Brian Taylor, he was a trier!

Meanwhile, good to hear from DM that Gomes and Lokilo are in the squad for Saturday and, he was a bit more coy about the inclusion of Bostock, saying he's going to have a chat with him at training tomorrow but sounded upbeat about his fitness.

Lincoln had a forward line of Percy Freeman, John Ward, and Peter Graham.

No wonder they scored a boatload of goals that season.

Bogle, Bostock, lokilo and potentially Gomes back in the squad tomorrow.  When Sims is back picking the eleven will be fun.

it would be nice to know just what the ifollow attendance was for this game tomorrow after the game of course, I would think it would be attractive and probably the highest attendance yet for a league fixture.

My first ever game too. Seen us take a couple of hidings down there as well over the years.
Bob G, one other thing to remind you how quickly time is passing, the game where we had 2 sent off  we ended up winning 2-0. It wasn't about 25 years ago, it was at least 35 years ago as Ian Snodin was playing.

Bob G,

That Percy Freeman/Kim Book thing....was it Percy, because I remember it as Dixie McNeil?

Not only was it a foul, it was a definite card as well, even in those days!
And from memory, I am not sure Book crossed the line anyway.
I was stood at the side, and remember thinking it didn't.

Mind, I might have been wearing the rose tinted at the time.

You could easily be right Albie. I think I've already proved, pretty conclusively, that my memory is not to be relied upon.

I was about the half way line that day. from there I thought Kim Book did cross the line, but then, I was quite a long way away. Whatever, it was a shocking foul and to give a goal was just plain despicable. It was so bad a decision that even Trevor Kettle would have blushed. If that ref wasn't nobbled then he must have been 3 sheets to the wind because that was one of the very worst decisions I have ever seen. It was up there with Ray Tinkler's.

Let's agree it was Dixie!

Cheers

Jesus wept, I've woken up at an ungodly hour after dreaming about todays game.

I feel like a bloody 10 year old again.  Well excited and can't wait til 3pm.

I am the same. Got butterflies this morning in anticipation of this one. Just wish we could be there to see it.
This exile from the games is really getting to me.

Think he will in all likelihood start on the bench. But what do i know? It’s very rare i guess the starting 11 & get it right.

Depends I guess how much training he's done with the group and how it worked out, a bit of a risk otherwise.

I’ll be shocked if he’s in the starting 11, as Darren likes to assess them first. But, we’ve been here before, trying to second guess what he’s going to do!

I’ll bet he’s got something up his sleeve.

He bench should look rather tasty today, if JB is fit.

Possible bench:

Jones (that’s the only ‘given’); Wright; Gomes; Lokilo; Bostock; Bogle; Greaves?

This is the archetypal six pointer.  I'd take a defeat against any bottom half team if we could get the win today.  Would make such a difference to our prospects at the top end of the table.

The one venue I’ve been hoping to tick off for what seems like forever!
Looks like I’ll have to wait till next year in the Championship.
