Utter relief & Reflection
« on January 31, 2021, 11:11:35 am by Lincoln Rover »
When the final whistle blew yesterday and it was safe to come from behind the settee It made me reflect.
1. Sir Sean O Driscoll WAS correct in saying (after we beat some little team at Wembley)
“ Sean how do you feel after that ? “
“ Utter relief” “ Give me a cuppa tea”.
He was right you know.
2. Get a defibrillator on standby if possible.
3. Why do many of us shout at the telly as no one at the ground can hear us?
4. Why when we’re under the cosh do I head kick and tackle like a man possessed?
I know I’m not the only plonker who goes through these emotions and it would be nice to show Mrs Lincoln Rover I’m not alone.
Ps I now owe Mrs LR a new living room carpet.
Other quotes included
“ We’ve got a settee why don’t you use it ? “
Come on share what it was like in your place ....I know I’m not alone.

Kicked every ball and headed away every cross. It’s those wins that make us start to believe.

I lost count of the number of times my wife said “they can’t hear you” as I bawled at the screen yesterday. That and “do you need a wee” as my leg kicked and twitched constantly. The joys of being a Rover!

I was glad I was on my own, cos the language coming out of my mouth would have been frowned upon working on the pit face at Hatfield Colliery.
God knows what my neighbours thought.
That was the hardest watch I've endured for a long time.
I thought Lincoln were the best team I've seen Rovers play this season, and even when Ellery saved those peno's, I just couldn't bring myself to think "Maybe today's our day".
I really thought they would nick a goal.

Strange watch for me- expected to lose the game from the start so was more relaxed watching the game than v Rochdale or Wimbledon where I expected to win more easily!
The penalties just increase the resignation that we would lose but then the euphoria of the saves said to me that this was our day, and so it proved.
This team has the skill and brilliant never say die attitude to go all the way but I think next Saturday against Oxford will be as tough as it gets and we will need to play as well as in any game this season to get another win.

Yes, lincoln, you and I (and any other Lincolnshire exiles) know how much this means to us. I had so many locals texting me and a couple even rang me, telling me everything from don’t forget to put my lottery on to we were “Crap”. Unbelievable! I just wish the pub was open so I could milk it even more!!

My wife accused me of ‘shouting like a mad man’.

To be fair, that’s pretty accurate!

Oh, the relief when the final score popped up on my iPad, despite me watching the last few seconds on iFollow!

Our lass buggered off out because of my apparent swearing. I wouldn't mind but I wasn't actually swearing when she finally complained. A Lincoln player had his foot on the ball to stop us taking a quick free-kick and I merely shouted "FOOT OFF".

I must admit though I sometimes forget I'm at home but anybody would thing I swear unconsciously. The worlds too bloody soft nowadays.

Laughed at them every time they got near goal, especially when they had two free hits from twelve yards and missed, the fact is it was them who were rubbish in front of goal, miss chances like that and you don't deserve to win a game of football, and they didn't.
Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda, not the best team we have played all season, but they were the most wasteful, in fact the worst when it comes to the important part of the game, converting your chances.

My only regret about the result is that with golf clubs closed I don’t get to see next week the miserable faces of all the Lincoln fans bemoaning their luck. Still there are plenty of Grimsby fan members (and even a Boston one) who would be chuckling with me

boy did that seem a long game. Hanging on to a 1-0 lead for 75 minutes  , whilst being given a masterclass  lesson in passing by Lincoln must have taken  sone siet of toll. I was already thinking a draw was a fair result as the 2nd penalty was about to be taken.  An exceptional win and brilliant 3 points.

I’m 60 this year, been daft on the rovers since the early seventies.
That means I’ve grown numb to the disappointment  :that:.
My lad unfortunately is in his twenties and is not yet used to the ups and downs of supporting the mighty reds.
His language yesterday was fruity to say the least :scarf: :rtid:

I didn't manage to be somewhere where I could actually see anything as it hapaned (or nearly happened). Teletext, IPlayer, BBC online and here was all I had. So perpetual motion man me. And perpetual disbelief man too. I didn't think we could hold out for 75 minutes. i hoped for, but tbh, doubted, we would end up holding out for a draw.

I didn't swear that much, well, not loudly, but I was, and continue to be totally and utterly gobsmacked. Brentford, when Trotta missed that pen, was wonderful. But we didn't have to hang on, desparately hoping, for ever and ever and ever. This time, we did.

That’s quite a surprising reflection of the game Selby, I felt many emotions during that match but I couldn’t say I laughed my head off at their misses.

I felt massive relief when the final whistle blew because we nicked those three points and Lincoln must have been devastated they lost that game.

I thought they played some excellent passing football but I would agree their finishing was woeful.
We defended brilliantly from front to back.

Back to the thread .... I screamed and yelled and jumped around like a madman. My youngest daughter joined me for the second half to see what all the fuss was about, and ended up screaming and yelling and jumping about with me!

The expression of relief and joy at the final whistle nearly lifted our roof off!

That was not enjoyable, it was heart-attack stuff.

On the contrary Pancho, I really enjoyed it. Edge of your seat heart pumping exciting stuff. So much better than a drab 0-0 or even a 1-0 win. Can’t wait for the next instalment.

Was resigned to losing after the first ten minutes, they seemed fitter and faster, and I thought ok we get beat by a better team on the day, so what we’ll bounce back.....
Then we scored, a T-R trademark goal.... I love that C word, it rolls out and stays out, ( I love swearing)

At his point I knew it was going to be a very different game, I didn’t want the team to attack, just freakin defend, and don’t switch off....

Suffice to say we did defend and we rode our luck, but I was never aware of the Lincoln dominance in a negative way, just marvelled at our resilience and do or die attitude....and used that beautiful C word every time we repelled an attack...

Wife found it quite amusing for someone so reserved...

I have to go into my office and shut the door so my shouting doesn’t wind up the dogs and so that the wife doesn’t have to listen to me.
On the point of shouting at the screen not making any difference, maybe not but my “defending a pen and helping the keeper” tactics certainly helped Ellery yesterday.
I put my hands into a praying position and told Ellery which way to dive for the first pen.
He saved it of course so when the second pen came along it tried it again and told him to go the other way and of course it worked again.
Thought transference eh, I didn’t realise I was so good at it.
