Think this is where we are:

John-Jules - probably out until Easter.
Sims - back in February.
Copps - back in February.
Bogle - back for Saturday?

Anyone else?

Boggle signed for us on Friday but has to isolate for ten days.
If he was tested on Thursday or Friday then that ten day period won’t be up before Saturday.

Thought self isolation was 7 days now

Well it's February tomorrow. Sims kinda indicated it would be about a week but then seemed to correct himself to 10 days but we know DM won't rush him.

As said, Bogle won't be back for Saturday plus he's not spent anytime on the pitch with the squad. Best he can hope for is a week on Tuesday I would guess but more likely the following Saturday.

Copps was only a calf strain so could be imminent.

It's 10 days after a positive test.

Probably Adam.
I think I read that he hasn’t played since October.

Anyone know why Amos has not been in the last two Match Day squads?

I reckon we're trying to secure a loan move for him. Based on nothing but my own speculation, might be adding 2+2 and getting 5.

With the best will in the world, in a week or so, he's gonna struggle to make the bench..  Which is a shame for his development..

Then it’s back to the old dilemma isn’t it.
Develop our own players or bring in players who are more likely to get quicker success.

Sadly, for our youngsters, a 20 years old prem lad is better than one of our lads, that's just a given. DM, as a manger has to get results, or he's out. His loyalty is to himself and his family to keep his job and get the job done. If that means disregarding the local youth to give himself a better chance, that is what he will and is doing.
As Fans we love a local boy to come good,  but until anyone can have the impact of a herbie kane, wilks, Richards etc,  then its loan players very day of the week for the manager.. Whoever that may be.

Is it not how it works though through the pyramid . We loan players not good enough yet for divisions above, they develop and if it works out return to parent club and go on to better things. Equally we loan out players to teams in lower divisions in hope they do same . There's examples like Jones where we do it in house too.

Yep agreed turnbull but Jones for example still can’t get a first team place.
We don’t get many that come through our youth team ranks do we.

I am sure that if/when one of our own comes through who is actually good enough and isn't poached early in his time by a 'better,' academy, then he will play.

This includes Jones, although we have, as a club, acknowledged our hopes for him he is clearly not as ready yet as Balcombe is or he would be playing and Balcombe/Bursik/Lumley or Dieng wouldn't have been signed.

I would imagine which division we are in next year will dictate his development, I would suggest if we go up he will be number 2, if we don't he'll get his shot at being number 1.

I think there’s really only JJ that’s injured, as such. Everyone else is getting their fitness levels up to where DM needs them.

Bogle, of course, is effectively ill and it will depend what effects the virus has on him, if any. And he’s the one we desperately needed to be available for selection, as poor old Fej just can’t seem to get any rest.

Also Alan, Bogle may not have any ill effects at all.
Not everyone who tests positive becomes unwell as you will be aware.

It's a catch 22 with bringing young lads through. You only have to look at the clamouring of fans for quality players and the desire to see ambition from the club.

At the end of the day DM or any manager of the day has to make a judgement whether they are ready or good enough especially when trying to raise standards throughout the squad.

Amos and A J Greaves. We are quite generous because we accept they're only young and inexperienced but, DM sees them in training every day. I have no doubt he sets them standards he expects in training and if he keeps seeing the same mistakes then we know what's likely to happen.

For example. As encouraged as we were about AJs appearances, he showed a bit of tempestuousness, giving away a daft free kick in the closing seconds of one game and nearly go involved in some afters in the next. If DM had told him to be disciplined and he's crossed that line, DM maybe thought he can't afford to risk him.

I think DF had the same issues with Harry Middleton who was given chances but kept making the same mistakes.

It's hard for them especially when managers are being offered umpteen youngsters from higher level clubs.

Indeed, but they also need to be reasonably confident they're not bringing in another infection into the club. We can't afford any more postponements. I'm sure they'll go through the protocol to the letter and test him for Covid before assessing his fitness.

Not so sure about that - we ought to have a couple of defenders on the bench.. who else is there.?

Not necessarily - we didn’t have any defenders on the bench at the weekend. When James and Halliday are playing out of position I imagine the thinking is that with any change needed at full back they can just drop back, and any change needed at centre back would see Wright/John come inside and again one of James/Halliday drop back.

and not only 10 days, with Covid even a mild case takes a lot out of you so a few days training before he starts playing

Vicar, I know a couple of lads who have tested positive for COVID, done their ten days isolation then carried on as they had before.
No ill effects at all.

We signed him on 29th Jan, so it really depends when he was tested? If it was the 29th, then he’ll only been out of isolation 1 day and will not have had much training with the team. I doubt it will be the Fleetwood game.

I think Bostock has more of a chance of being ready for Fleetwood, but I hope he’s ready for Oxford. Fingers are crossed, then, for Sims (that he’s further on than we all think).
