The saying is, make a silk purse out of a sows ear.

There is another one that says. "You can put a pig in a frock, but it's still a pig!"

That's "you can put lipstick on a pig but it's still a pig. "

Reminds me of Park Lane

Wellens back favourite. A bit of movement at the top with some other names too.

I wouldn't be against Wellens, especially compared to half that list.

Nailed on Wellens I think- I'd be happy with him too I think.

He wouldn’t have been my first choice but realistically, based on the names banded about, he looks the best of the lot.

I believe so, now we'll be having final discussions with 2/3 outstanding candidates and we'll be making an offer to one of them tomorrow if I've understood the schedule correctly.

However, it's important to remember that the majority of names being banded about weren't even on the interview list...

Not quite, I think SM advised that there’ll be second interviews for the whittled down pool of candidates tomorrow. Then an offer made thereafter.

The club as a good record of picking the right man .BUT anyone out of work with the right credentials we see this job as a step on a ladder and not a long term aim . It’s a two man job so who they select and intern who he selects !!

Right you are. We're getting down to brass tacks now then.

Applicants might also be in a job and fancy a crack at Rovers. The last 15 years or so have raised the club’s profile no end.

I’m sure martin said there’s no chance we’d appoint Wellens, so surely that’s a non starter

He then said it's just his opinion. It was strange how he mentioned it really....

Paul Goodwin wrote a good article on DRFC. We are at a crossroads the appointment of the manager will be key. Will he have the funds to bring in seasoned league one professionals, which won’t be cheap to go for promotion. Will the club be happy to keep heading for top six but not achieving promotion and the extra revenue. Next season will indicate where we want to go what the club actually want to achieve. Starts with the manager then his recruitment this summer.

I presumed it was an opinion based on pretty hardened facts.

So did I, but I just have a feeling Wellens will get it.

He is playing in the charity game later in the month so he is obviously on okay terms with people at the club.

My understanding was that 2nd interviews would take place Thursday with 2 or 3 top candidates with an offer being made and if accepted announced Thursday or Friday

I can't see us announcing it until Monday/Tuesday next week. I suppose it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things with the timing but It will be good to know and stop the speculation.

I'm not fussed with speculation in this instance.

Anyone who announces anything prematurely will be tested by the truth when that come out anyway.

Just a further update.

A couple of the candidates have run into scheduling problems with their personal commitments, therefore the club are going to have to push things into next week.

The club have agreed to meet at least two of the candidates next Monday, and the shortlist will be drawn up from that with 2nd interviews held asap. The plan is now to appoint next week.

Quickly everyone try and work out who is on pundit duty over the next couple of days!

Thanks for the update SM... Doesn't put too much of a spanner in the works

Just put it on another thread, I would take there Centre Forward if he was interested, 100 goals in 144 apps... Not sure what the money is like over in AUS... Can't see a lot of them wanting to come to sunny England over Australia though!
