What I don't understand with wellens is the attraction to him. Yep great player for this club, yep did well for Swinton in LG 2. But that's about it, jumped fir a big money move to his mates and failed there. Seems very much like alot of our old managers plus I'm not sure what, if any connections he has in the game.

Graham Jones, if applied is an interesting one. Another ex rover, struggled at Luton, good connections in the game at all levels. equally strong characters which is going back to Darren  fergusons days. I'd say highly rated and poss waiting for a championship club role rather than rovers

Wellens started out at Man Utd, his Son is in the academy there, he will be well connected at Man Utd, and I’m sure he’ll have connections elsewhere

He did not fail at Salford but he came up against a very overbearing   Gary Neville who few would be allowed to cross swords with.

He was there 4 months and won a cup final before being axed for refusing to compromise and play hoofball. If that's failure then there aren't many successful managers out there, that's for sure!

Rightly or wrongly, the style of football was questioned by Neville and co. due to poor results in the short term (18 points from the previous 16 games).

A stupid short-termist sacking in my view, but still, if Richie had been winning every week playing nice football he'd still be manager of Salford.

They wanted him to change his style as they weren't getting the results they wanted

They thought he may be wrong trying to play football on the shocking L2 pitches.

Wellens and Robinson both on the shortlist then. I'd be happy with either of these two.

This isn't from the names the72 mentions, is it? 3 of their 5 have been ruled out so you can take it with a pinch of salt.

Wellens has No credentials and I do not see why we should be used as HIS next failure!!

SO'D would have never got off the ground at Salford, or many other clubs come to that, as his initial results at Rovers were poor as he worked towards getting the team to play a different style of football.

I’m just a little confused (doesn’t take much) that there is a shortlist when we haven’t completed interviews, or have I missed something

Pretty sure the shortlist was drawn up from the original applicants and used to determine who would be invited for interview. We’re part way through interviewing the candidates on that shortlist. That will be done by the end of today, and then ‘successful’ candidates will be invited back for a second stage interview and testing.

J I think people are inferring they know who is on the final shortlist of 2-3

Right I see, well it’s entirely plausible that some of the candidates interviewed last week impressed sufficiently to be shortlisted for the final stage, and now we wait to see if anyone from today’s round will join them.

Reading between the lines, it feels like Wellens and Robinson are already through to the last stage, and that those under consideration today (currently employed elsewhere) aren’t necessarily reflected in the betting.

Whoever gets the job I am not that fussed, if I had a choice I would be after Nigel Clough who is already in a job, so probably a non starter.
Whoever does get the job I will be fully supportive of, as most on here even with preferred choices who may not get the job will be.
When they get the job whoever it is, they will be working for a good club, with as much backing as the owners can provide, will be left alone to do their thing, and if past selected managers are anything to go by could well go on to bigger things if they show promise and the ability to drive our club on.
So that is the attraction of managing Doncaster Rovers, you will be left alone to do your thing by the board, you will get as much support as possible finance wise, and will not face the sack on the first sign of a drop in results if past records are taken into consideration, and unusually in football will be given time to build the playing side into a competitive unit, and will inherit a good staff.
All we need to do now is get on with it, which we are doing, and then the job of rebuilding, so lots to look forward to.

Thanks Jonathan, yeah that makes sense, it just seemed as though some people were floating the shortlist as though we had finished the first round. In all interviewing processes I have been involved with we wouldn’t draw up a list until all of the stage ones were concluded

Liam Hoden has confirmed, based on someone showing him that crap 72 article, that Stephen Robinson is on the list with Wellens. The other three from that article have already been ruled out.

I would be happy with either of them, personally.

Would like to see Robinson given a chance. Just been thinking; reckon Paul Lambert could be a candidate?

Sounds like he's ruled out Graeme Jones too. That's good.

Not so keen on Robinson personally due to style of play.

Bit harsh....are you going to say this for every candidate that gets put through until one you like is?
Which then lends itself to the question....who would you prefer ???

I can ask. It's not a question that's cropped up before.

Seems like Wellens is Bradford fans' first choice for their manager too.
