Euros Quiz Question
« on July 11, 2021, 12:08:40 am by BillyStubbsTears »
Heard this one on the radio this week and being the nerd  I am, I got it at once.

If Italy win tomorrow, they join a group comprising only Czechoslovakia, Netherlands and Denmark who have done what?

Seeing as Italy won the Eurovision Song Contest this year, i guess  that the other teams did the did the same thing in that year, and this a guess and i haven't googled honestly.

Got it in one Dickos.

Remarkable that a side can turn round that quickly.

Got it in one.

Remarkable that a side can turn round that quickly.
Denmark even more remarkable as they didn't even qualify for the Tournament they won.
Go on BST as your a nerd  , seeing as my answer is wrong, as there ever been a team that has won the Eurovision Song Contest and Euros in the same year, or could Italy be the first.

Just done a search , and if Italy win tomorrow they will become the first Nation to win the Euro's and Eurovision in the same year.

Got it in one Dickos.

Remarkable that a side can turn round that quickly.

Helped by the fact it’s actually been a three year cycle, not two.

And the fact their last manager was clueless.

It’s arguably easier to reshape under new management without the pressure of a major tournament. It’s not great, but like England when we failed to reach USA 1994, it gave Venables a period to sort out big issues under cover of friendlies. Italy are the same. Everyone keeps quoting the 33 games unbeaten but the vast majority of these are very poor sides - Liechtenstein, Armenia, etc. They’ve had a prolonged period to get this right, under the radar.

Another question.

Don't look it up, just have a go.

Who are the only two teams to have taken part in at least 1 Euros penalty shootout and never missed a single penalty?

Denmark as a guess purely on them beating Netherlands in 1992 on pens.
Portugal?

Nope. Preben Elkjaer missed one when they lost to Spain in 1984.

Turkey?

That's one. Beat Croatia 3-1 in 2008.

The other is an astonishing record. Three successful shoot outs. 19 scored. Zero missed.

Given that on average 1 in every 3 shootout penalties are missed, the odds against that record are 2000/1.

It doesn't matter. Uli Hoeness missed one for West Germany in Euro 1976 and Stielike in WC 1982.
Mueller, Özil and Schweinsteiger all missed in Euro 2016.

Would guess at the Czechs starting with the one they won with Panenka, not sure they have been in that many shootouts to score that many
