Any watch aficionados on here?

I've been wearing my Grandads retirement watch for a longtime but the other day I knocked it. Luckily it's not damaged but it made me think I ought to take more care of it. Sentimental value more than anything.

So I'm thinking of getting an every day watch. I don't want anything like a smart watch or a digital watch or a fashion watch. Something rugged, reliable, no nonsense and not too dear. So I'm thinking a MWC retro WW2 job like this:

The MWC is quite appealing because its Swiss and they supply military and service watches, so even though it's a retro model for the retail market, I imagine it'll be quite rugged but I don't know.

The CWC watches that the army use look ok. I fancy one myself. Have you seen the Citizen eco drive watches, they don't have a battery? They charge themselves using a light cell.

Have a look at the Stauer range, RD.  They make some great designs and don't cost the earth.

I've got a nice Armani Ceramica watch. Got a shock when I wanted a link taking out of it - costs a fortune as its a special tool required as it's apparently easy to smash the ceramic links.

Nice looking watches Rob but just looking at the review they are basically Fossil fashion watches. Manufactured in China, finished off in Switzerland and you pay a premium on top for the eagle branding. Better reputation than most designer watches though.

I think I'm settled on the MWC because it seems to have a pretty good reputation and I like the simple aesthetic. Good price.

Hamilton do the Khaki field range, very similar but twice the price. IWC do a reproduction of a WW2 RAF pilots watch. Full Swiss reputation. Lovely. Very Expensive.

Interestingly the British commissioned 12 Swiss watch makers to supply watches in the war. They have obviously become very collectable 'the dirty dozen'. Apparently a decade or two ago they were quite easy to pick up. Quite dear now. The Omega is the prize one.

Designed in Sheffield and built in Switzerland or Germany depending on the model. High quality watches, (way above MWC), at sensible prices. Most of his designs are based on historic or important models with improvements over the original.  I have seven of his watches, (two are limited editions of 300 and 200 respectively), and are exceptional quality.
 
This is my favourite, based on an IWC Mk11 pilots watch....
 

 
Many of his watches are military designed, some type approved.
