Try to say something

Look for the positives (?)... if you exclude the 68 minutes after our goal we looked alright. We were 'in it'. Maybe at a push you could say Dodoo was a positive, he did some things, looks physical, offered more than Bogle certainly.

The negatives (?) ... just a severe lack of quality all over the pitch, never enough to turn a game like this around. A lot of middling players, fully trying, but lacking the quality of your Richards last season, Coppinger years past, Wilkes - keep going back. Matt Smith looks a little out of his depth, Close has been a ghost in the last few games. The back four were uncoordinated, free header after header for Wigan. Could it be lack of game time with each other? Could it be Rowe not playing in the right position? Possibly, but it looks like a fundamental lack of quality also to me - too many panicked clearances, a lack of faith with what is in front of them to play out from the back.

Recruitment? It looks to me like we've rushed way too soon into giving contracts to trialists and not thinking things through. Is this a lack of experience from Wellens or a lack of money? I don't know. The loans this year are visibly worse than the last few years. Is this Wellens' lack of contacts? Or the loss of the talent spotter? I have no idea.

I'd have to say we're in for a long season here.

Games last a minimum of 90ms and we have fight , play , pass, run chase, tackle , shoot and shoot , shoot … it’s difficult to watch weak performance from players who know how to do everything that’s needed .

And on top of the lack of quality, a bloke with a flag who must have nodded off when they scored their second and a referee who signals four minutes of added time and play barely three. No wonder RW and NH were going ballistic.

It says everything that when we’ve been bagging on about a decent striker and it’s our left fullback who scored our only shot on target !!

Knoyle played Keane on for the 2nd.

Sadly you're right and this has snuck under the radar with all the chat about strikers. Horrific is almost putting it mildly, just consistently bullied and out of position.

Been saying this for ages. We’ve kept three clean sheets in last 30 league games. This is absolutely dreadful. The turnover of players no doubt explains this but also Moore, Butler and now Wellens have failed to sign the unglamorous bullies like Jones or McCombe who can’t pass, can’t run, but can defend and can bully. 1 in every 10 league games we manage to stop the opposition scoring. Truly piss poor.

Does anyone think the board underestimate how hard this season was going to be?

Williams is clearly the weak link. Was a joke for the second goal. I thought this was supposed to be the guy who runs 100m in 10 seconds?

The board? No. The people deciding to sign Gardener, Barlow, Smith, Cukur etc either underestimated the quality of the division or overestimated the abilities of these lot.

Turnover of managers is the route of the problems but this summer hasn’t been the success Baldwin was saying forget about injuries

Our summer recruitment looks to have been a total failure.

Not getting a proper defensive mid is almost as bad as the joke of the new striker situation. And why have we signed so many lightweight, ineffective midfielders. Smith and Close have been disappointing and Galbraith was non-existent today.

It’s absolutely unbelievable how we have lost some top players over the past couple of seasons, Whiteman, Sadlier, Marquis etc and we consistently replace them with players that are no where near the quality of the players they’ve replaced.

We’re a poorly run football club.

But a decently run business.

Butler didn't have a transfer window, did he?

I thought the new CB did ok today, certainly better than the one beside him.
Other than that, well…….

I wasn't there today, but I said on here at the time of Williams' signing that it was the least impressive looking of RW's signings at the time.

I've seen nothing since to change my mind.

Shrewsbury fans report cards when we signed Williams was that he was quick but had poor positioning, wasn't good on the ball and didn't have a great footballing brain. They were all surprised he didn't drop to League Two to develop more into the sort of player who could compete at this level.

So far I'd say the lad has lived up (or down) to that assessment.

The players you mentioned were great for us but nothing before they came. We don’t seem to be picking players like this up anymore. That said to improve any player the team needs to have confidence and win games. We could sign the next Messi and he’d look average because we just can’t get results

Mate, the next Messi will already be on the books of a big PL club under eights team.
The days of someone as good as that joining a lower league club are long gone.

I’m not suggesting we could sign him just saying we might be signing really good players but when confidence is so low it’s harder for them to improve and show it

Maybe I should say “we could sign the next Messi on loan” to be more accurate!

LoL. You could be right.
Mind you Ronaldo looks like he will make a massive difference to that Man Utd team.

One positive from yesterday is I took a punt on parking on the turn off of the road into carpark 4 since there were no double yellows and the place the gate led to look closed, came back to the car and no tickets or destroyed vehicle plus no pounds spent parking.

At last…..something good to think about , well done Janso! ….I would have kept the location to myself, but well done all the same!
