It's all more about Taiwan though isn't it?

China is reducing imports where it can develop it's own and local markets. Only a few years ago Victoria (labor) the second most populous state here had signed a 'belt and road' trade agreement with them. Australia's defence procurement is the pits, there is almost always a problem with whatever is contracted.Have a look at this Donhttps://independentaustralia.net/politics/politics-display/submarine-fiasco-the-latest-in-a-long-list-of-coalition-military-failures,15536Added:And the conversation that the Australian public are not getting is whether we want or should have nuclear power in the country at all full stop. This is due to the duopoly with barely a fag paper's difference between labor and the conservatives, especially where national security climate change and refugees are concerned.
I like this, most who back electric cars to save the planet will put diesel engines, and big ones at that into subs.
Syd, there is only one thing I have never heard described as having the potential to kill you by the authorities, and that is hard work.
I see that EU - Australia trade talks have been delayed....... the French are still not very happy after their submarine deal was blown out of the water (pun intended) and are dragging the EU into it. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-58757749

So the Oz gov has spent the last 18 months poking the China bear over sovereignty and interference in Oz politics, all well and good except no one could understand why they didn't sort out new markets for our trade first. All this to prime the very anti nuclear Oz public for this. There is zero nuclear capability in anything but medicine here and the right side of politics has always wanted it probably due to uranium deposits, so a whole industry would have to be designed and built for the maintenance of these subs which won't arrive for twenty years. And because of the new China 'threat' the public hasn't questioned it, nor has labor. No mention of any build work to be done here either. I can see why the french are pissed.

I can see why the french are pissed.8,000 Japanese Marines got to within a few miles of OZ in 1942. You are thick enough not to know that.China has built the Worlds Largest Navy, look at the map of the region and see where all the resources are? You are in very grave danger buddy!
