It's probably sensible to use the budget as we did in 2013/14 when we brought in Sharp, Meite, Tamas and Neill on loan. Top quality players for Championship who made a huge difference. All obviously disappeared when we got relegated, but we would not have been able to sign them that season on longer-term deals. We have enough players out of contract in the summer that if we need to do a complete squad rebuild due to relegation, we have the freedom to do that.

If we can sign L1 equivalents then 100% we should go for it. No point signing 4-5 players of Milan Lalkovic's ilk is what i'm getting at

Paul Goodwin from the Free Press has put this into the public domain earlier today.

Even with a decent budget available for this window, people need to get realistic. First, recruiting in January is always very difficult. Second, it is nigh on impossible to get the players you need to stay in League One, if the odds are you will be in League Two next season. At best you are looking at getting League One quality in on a short-term basis e.g. Downing on loan until end of season. Nobody is going to sign longer-term contracts when we are an evens bet to be in League Two next season, unless we throw stupid money around, which we have not got. People need to get real.

A league one club signing a few proven league one players on loan or a short contract to the end of the season shouldn't be costing 'stupid money' though should it? You'd expect the significant funds made available in January to cover those costs. Funds I'm very grateful the board have made available, I should add.

That was exactly the point I made. Signing players of proven League One quality on longer-term contracts is only going to happen if we throw stupid money around. What we have more ability to do is sign these players on loan.

I went to watch Boston on Tuesday, he came on as a sub and did nothing. Surprised we don't get linked with more Boston players given they train at the Keepmoat.
That is the clue.
Some of the Boston players train at the EP stadium. Keepmoat where is that.  ;)   :)

Surely Paul Green will have an opinion as to his worth to us?

His goal scoring ability could really come in handy. He managed 7 one season at Walsall. Alongside Dodoo & Hiwula, that could really add up come season end.

"We need attackers that are match fit and ready, who are going to score goals at the level and have scored goals at the level on a regular basis."

I hope this doesn't turn out the same way as Moore's "pedigree striker" comment.

It wasn't ever his first thought. It was under wellens that Milan may of signed. Let's all please cut the slack on McSheffery. He deserves better than this.

It looks like it was n’t his first thoughts, but rather the first thoughts of the previous manager

It wasn't a dig at GM.

More likely someone put forward by the recruitment panel. ML is good friends with Copps apparently. Obviously an attempt to stretch the limited funds available at that time.

If Wellens thought an unfit , injury prone Lalkovic was the answer to our problems  then I despair .
Thank god the Board saw sense and sent him packing before he squandered any more money.

If true it does put Wellens decision making into question.

Wasn’t Wellens looking for Lalkovic to gain fitness with Boston?  Daft to suggest he wanted to sign an unfit player isn’t it?

Yeah, we definitely wouldn't sign an attacking player that wasn't up to speed on his fitness.

It really does show RW in a poor light if this was one of his targets for January

First he wasn’t signed secondly was he put forward by the recruitment team thirdly with limited funds then maybe it’s the level of player we could get. Now more funds are available therefore GMC should be looking at players who are actually in league football at the moment. The players that GMC and the club signs will have come through  the recruitment team. That is the process when players signed.

Lalkovic Came on late for Boston today and was described by some Boston supporters as looking sharp. There are also comments on the bufc fb page suggesting he will be moving to a lge one club.
Given GM said in his interview that there may be plan b players etc , I would not be surprised to see him in a rovers shirt soon.
