1) It wasn't a second job. It was money used to fund researchers in his office.

But.

2) Utterly stupid of Gardiner to be taking that amount of money from a foreign national without questioning it.

And.

3)  Apparently Christine Lee's son was still working for Gardiner until today. That might be unbelievably stupid. Or, since Gardiner says he's been liaising with MI5 on this for a couple of years, it might have been a convenient way for them to keep an eye on Lee.

It's absolutely dodgy.  His defence in his interviews was wooly at best.  He found out this morning, but has been liaising with them for years? Odd that.

There's definitely something in it. How much is questionable.  Anyone who thinks it's only one party who accepts interference is an idiot. It isn't. It always has existed and always will.
