Taking chances
« on January 29, 2022, 05:46:13 pm by Filo »
That was the difference, we could have had four goals in the first 20 minutes.

Ironic that Plymouth’s best three players were ex Rovers, Ennis, Grant and Houghton

Nail on the head there Filo. Didn't see a lot wrong with Tommy's goal though

Got to take our chances. We get punished every time when we don’t.
We should have had 3/4 first half.
Thought we played really well in the first half and did not look like a team at the bottom of the table.
The result was not a fair reflection but goals win games and Plymouth took most of their chances, we didn’t.

Why we didn’t make more of an effort to get Ennis back is beyond me, streets ahead of any of our forwards

We had 4 very good chances in the first half but that doesn’t equate to four goals does it. You don’t score every good chance you get.

It’s improving. We used to get a 10 or 15 min spell earlier in this season. Now we are getting entire halves eg Morecambe, Cambridge, today. Next step is 60 mins of domination and by that point we should be out of sight.

Gone from half a season of basically creating f**k all to starting to create loads of chances but not being able to put them in. What a swing in difference!

Looking at the stats the sides were nearly identical on shots and shots on target. I think if we had gone 2-0 up in first 20mins we would have ended up winning. If we keep on creating the number of chance we created today the goals & wins will start to come.

We were also robbed by bad officiating Dodoo was clearly onside when through but got flagged even though it was the new lad in the offside position

Also, it is concerning that we have added these extra attacking players like Mipo (accept it is his first game today), Agard, Martin and we still can't score. Agard has had 4 or is it 5? appearances now and done well but not scored. At some point we also need goals from our attackers. We let Bogle go and he's scored 2 or 3 hasn't he?

easily 2 yards off. Sat bang in line with that. Both offside. Pass was delayed too long.

We did look better at creating chances today but we still concede too many at the other end.

Plymouth scored 3 goals but also had another 3 or 4 good opportunities in addition to that.

We went the 1st half of the season barely creating a chance. Missing chances isn't such a problem. Eventually they'll go in.

Concern now is we conceded 3 again. Think we've sorted our goal scoring problems out (fingers crossed) but we do need to start conceding fewer goals, Hopefully Clayton can come in and tighten up our midfield and if Anderson isn't far off returning that'll be huge

Looked really good today going forward but we need a keeper who commands his area and catches crosses, jones will be a good keeper in a few years but we need a more experiences keeper now who will settle the back four. Our luck will change in front of goal soon, like the way we are playing fast attacking football

Only just home believe it or not- trains north of York are in chaos.  Agree with the comments on Ennis but he looks far more mobile and threatening than when he was with us- thought the same when he came with Burton- either he has improved a lot or we didn’t get the best out of him- we do seem to encourage our strikers to be quite static, playing most of the game with their backs to goal.  Disappointing result but agree that there is much more encouragement for next season, whichever division we are in.

We played well but just allowed it to be far too open, we were punished for not taking our chances.
We have a lot of new players to integrate into the side, which isn’t easy at this stage of the season .

In the end just Plymouth knowing each other well cost us the game. We need Clayton starting very soon, the protection to the back four isn’t there.
Going forward it was very encouraging against a decent league one side ,just getting caught out at the back , just too wide open to win the game.

Hopefully Griffiths will gift us some goals, starting against Rotherham.

Yes, there were lots of positives to take from how we moved the ball and created chances. We caused their back line to be dragged out of shape.

There was that lull after 20 mins, when we seemed to take out foot of the gas and we allowed them to get a bit more composure into their game.

We, in turn got dragged about  with Olowu and Younger losing their positioning. That's definitely something that needs work with those two working in tandem however, that's always a danger when we push up from the flanks, the opposition can exploit the space in behind.

Unfortunately Hortons defending is still a bit weak which compounds the problem.

I'll definitely take that overall performance and the creation of those chances so, in the short turnaround to Tuesday, I would probably change very little, only swapping left backs.

Give all those players who created those chances another chance to convert them. We can't fight fire with fire against Rotherham and we might get bullied but our best chance is to deny them possession and hit them where it hurts.

bit harsh to go down as a error, yes maybe he will be disappointed not to get a firmer hand on it but the striker has headed it back across Jones

Gary said “Louis should have saved it”. It was a pretty easy one for a pro keeper.

That “lull” was a well engineered injury by Plymouth. The player went down and stayed down for a while, and we all had a drinks break.
It slowed play down, up to just before the break.

That happens so many times these days.

Wednesday took theirs against plymouth and were 2-0 up after 40 minutes and won 4-2
