Tactics yesterday
« on February 09, 2022, 08:01:17 pm by Branton Red »
1) On the ball against a team playing 3 big centre halves against our young, inexperienced forwards

If you manage to keep hold of the ball for more than 3 seconds get it back to the central defence or preferably the goalkeeper. Then whack the ball high, hard and as far as you can. Same tactic for goal kicks please.

2) Off the ball against a team known for playing possession based football

Sit deep, keep your shape, when the ball comes to an Ipswich player near you jog towards them but don't get too close! Remember social distancing rules. Don't put any pressure on the ball and whatever you do don't attempt a tackle.

Obviously not the tactics GM wanted but it was what we got which is unfortunate. Individual decision like playing Younger at right back concern me at the moment. Understood it if we were trying a back 3 but when Knoyle comes on and plays there it's very strange

Younger played well at rb at Sunderland, Knoyle hasn't done anything wrong in the middle either.
Can't disagree too much with the OP though.

No your right it's the kind of thing only picked up after a loss but i'd say 8 or 9 times out of 10 playing Knoyle right back and Younger centre back would be better than the other way around.

I understand the thinking, having an extra centre half in, albeit at right back, he thought it would give us more solidity, plus perk Knoyle up and say you aren’t guaranteed your place. He hasn’t been playing well. We
lost really because of depleted energy levels off the back of the Sunderland game.

The team gave everything in that game. Once fitness levels rise, you might see us put back to back results together. We would have got at least a point if the energy levels were not so low. We were not abysmal, we just didn’t offer a threat.

SCWK have to disagree with you for once, personally I think Knoyle has been playing his best football over the last few weeks, the only reason he lost his starting place was due to illness. It took a while for him to start playing how we anticipated but he’s there now
