The future of Ukrainian football
« on February 24, 2022, 12:29:17 pm by normal rules »
Will this be the end of famous clubs such a Dynamo Kiev and Shaktar Donetsk?

The importance of the conflict and lives being lost right now is not lost on me, but this is a footy forum.

Which begs the question, do we sanction all Russian football?  Who have been allowed to participate in Euro competitions.

A full sporting ban is in order in my opinion, the Champions League Final, the Russian GP are two high profile events that could be cancelled, then stop all Russian sports people competing outside of Russia, including throwing them out of the World Cup

I have just written a similar thing on another thread.
The banning of Russia from international competition would just be a further sanction that would hurt them.

They should have been thrown out of all international sport years ago for industrial scale doping. But as with everything, we pussyfoot around them and crave their petroroubles.

There is a ridiculous post by someone in the polish FA warning that if Poland did boycott the Russia game, then FIFA will give Russia a by to the playoff Final. Which would be against Czech or Sweden.

Surely this is far far more important than football and money.
I’m not optimistic that FIFA will stand up for Ukraine and democracy.

It would be quite funny then that if the Russians were given a bye to the World Cup finals that all the other countries withdrew.
FIFA would shit their pants and the tournament that should never have been awarded to Qatar wouldn’t take place.
A massive financial disaster for FIFA.

The South Americans, Asia Africa and Central Americans would turn up and the Europeans would have loads of places taken off them the next time round.
Europe is not the centre of the football world anymore, just has more money.
All they have to do is allocate the places to the other continents.

If Russia get to the finals, a show of strength and solidarity with a blanket boycott by all european teams would be more than appropriate.
The World Cup would essentially become like the Carabao cup.
Concerns over Qatar hosting this comp in the midst of human rights issues is one thing, invading a peaceful democratic country is another.
We must not and cannot entertain a competition that allows Russia to take part in.
A Russia that thinks Ukrainians are Nazis.

The teams that have qualified so far. 7 big European countries right there that I would like to see statements from each of their FA’s about their stance on Russia being in the comp still.

Qatar
Argentina
Belgium
Brazil
Croatia
Denmark
England
France
Germany
Iran
The Netherlands
Serbia
South Korea
Spain
Switzerland

Brian, this situation isn’t just about Europe though is it.
It is very much a World problem.
FIFA should stand together here.

Your anti-European obsessions lead you down some strange paths.

European nations have won 6 of the last 8 World Cups.

Having a World Cup with no European nations is like having The Ashes without Australia.

This World Cup is shaping up to be a right shit show.
The host country being the pastry to the turd pie, the filling being the prospect that Russia could feature.

Putin has just threaten to deploy his nuclear arsenal against any county that attempts to interfere with him.

Of course Russia and any Russian sportsman/woman should be thrown out of all international sport. If they aren't then Johnson should order any British club/palyer to boycott whatever competition they are in. You dont play games with tyrants.
