The greatest bowler of all time? I remember watching live on the box his first ever delivery in England to Mike Gatting and thinking before he bowled it "I hope all the hype is overdone and he's really shit."

Yeah, right. That was a moment that you see very, very rarely in any walk of life. Someone establishing themselves as an all-time great in a moment.

Great bowler and always on the front line with the sledging.
I seem to recall him getting a bit back from someone though ( I can’t remember who). When he came in to bat Warne said “I have been waiting two years to make you look silly again”. The batsman said back “It looks like you have spent the time eating”.

It's hell of a shock , and it's way too soon but suppose going out as world's best bowler and Liz Hurley on your list is worth a  few years off

Played test cricket how it should be played , hard with no quarter asked or given and right on the line .

But he'd have a beer with you in the dressing room following stumps and you go again the next morning .

Simply the best bowler I've ever seen .

He may have  worn the baggy green cap but my word you couldn't help admiring and respecting his ability .

It was a pleasure to have seen you bowl Shane mate .

RIP Shane Warne .

Was a hated and admired opponent.

I was lucky enough to be at Trentbridge for the 4th day in 2005. He very nearly won it singlehanded - thank god for Ashley ‘the king of Spain’ Giles.

The thing is Shane never wanted to roll us over 5-0 in the ashes .

He thrived on contest , when it was difficult and when it wasnt going Australia's way .

I'll never forget Shane shouting to KP in that final test match at the Oval in 2005 when he was finally out but had taken the ashes away from Australia .

 " well played mate "

After all those years finally we'd given them a series and nobody loved the battle more than Warney .

OK don't look it up, who was the umpire at the bowlers end when he bowled the ball of the century to Gatting?

Just listened to an interview he did saying he only really started playing cricket because he got released from playing soccer in 1988 and 2 years later had to introduce himself to his teammates when he was called up to play test cricket as did not know who he was

Best and most tricky bowler of all time imo. A pleasure to watch. And an infectious character to be around by the look of it. He will be missed and gone far too early. RIP Shane.

I went to a charity match he and Liz Hurley organised in Cirencester Park maybe 10 years back. Some belting players, some great fun and the guy himself? Open, affable, a legend you could have a word with and shake his hand.

Top day. Top bloke.

52. Jesus. My age.
It does make you wonder. I can’t imagine he had heart disease.
What on earth caused him to have a heart attack?
This sounds very premature.
RIP.

45 + is entering heart attack territory, body shape and general fitness or lack of fitness hides what is going on inside you, your body make up dictates any health conditions, in this case high cholesterol over the years may have had a knock on effect, no idea if Warne had such issues though. Years ago when I worked at Pilks all of us had a cholesterol test with the works nurse, I was by far the fattest on the shift, it was a standing joke that my cholesterol would be the highest, it turned out it was the lowest at 3.2, one of the skinniest on the shift was the highest at 14+, he is no longer with us
