So my Mam wants a new vacuum cleaner.

It doesn't want to have a cord, since she's getting on a bit and it's only a small flat and she doesn't want to be trailing a cable around the furniture. A battery one will be fine I think.

She was a big fan of Dyson but we were disapointed with the last upright, too many flimsy bits, difficult to pack away, always cleaning the filters. So I'm thinking Shark maybe.

Is there a consumer champion out there who could recommend a cordless vacuum cleaner?

We have a cordless shark, we like it, just need to keep on top of the filters cleaning wise

We have just got a shark ,think it has a better pick up power than the Dyson and the tool kit for the car I like more than the the Dyson ,but it is quite loud compared to the Dyson and heavier  in my opinion

What's the other brand they used to advertise a lot. Grey and lime green.

Remember when cleaners were beige? Nowadays a 1980s post-modern palette of primary colours is a must for them all.

Ive got a hoover admittedly its corded but they do a pretty fair range of corded plus as a veteran I got a fair old discount on top of the advertised discounts  with my Blue light card

Got one of their battery lawn mowers and it's excellent but don't know about their vacuums

We went for the Shark. My Mum likes the way it bends in the middle so it can go under furniture.

And it got a very big recommendation from a neighbour.

Never ever thought i would ever  be a sucker* and contribute to this thread but Mrs Coleman bought a Dyson V8 Animal  a few days ago and  it's just seen its first action

The "official" main reason was to make vacuuming the steps easier

she is streetwise on prices and got it a few days ago for £199  off the TV Station QVC (as in Quickly Vanishing Cash) one of those Midnight offers

 It seems to be best priced £229 everywhere else but they always undercutt since they do "bulk"

She's used it once on all types of surfaces carpet tiles floorboards (the turbo lifted the bathroom carpet) and on normal power it got the bits between the open wooden floorboards.

So on day one she is very happy ... even better I now get out of doing it

We've got one of them Vax 2 vacs. It's just like the old one we used to have in my opinion, but our lass says it's much quieter and quicker. I notice it's quieter, but not quicker. I still spend ten minutes with my bloody legs up in the air while she does under my feet.

It's basically a comb with blades and ours isn't much to write home about
