One of my all-time favourite bands.

Born of Kraftwerk, went a bit U2 but in a good way.

Saw them once at Wembley, they have a fanatical fanbase. They put on a great show.

Enjoy the Silence will always be a favourite track.

RIP

Words are very unnecessary.

Very early 80's when I was a working Musician I was playing with a classical quintet in Newcastle, we were staying in a BnB a decent one nothing too flashy but they had a bar.  We got back about midnight sat having a drink unwinding 3 lads came in we started talking as you do turned out they were Depeche Mode and had been doing a gig at Newcastle University. They were actually very knowledgeable about classical music and most genres of music must have sat there with them a good couple of hours talking

Depeche Mode were Sunday school boys and well educated  in that tradition.

Electronic music gave them a way to fly.

Very very sad. I was never a committed fan, but Never Let Me Down Again is an absolute classic.

They were very well schooled in it, When we all realised we were musicians allbeit totally different genres there was total respect all round I laughed later when they did become famous  when we first started talking " Oh you won't have heard of us but we are called Depeche Mode"  at that point not that many had but they were on the Uni circuit so just starting to come into their own
