My friend for more than 50 years, the great Johnny Barker died last night on his way home from the game.

I am heartbroken. Spoke to him at half time, he seemed fine.
I just can't believe it.
John was one of the Rovers greatest supporters they've ever had and will leave a massive hole in mine and all of his friends lives

If it's the John Barker I'm thinking of I was speaking to him before the game and he seemed fine. Awful how things can change so suddenly like that. RIP mate

Although I didn’t know him, I put his name to a face that I’d seen at Rovers over the years, don’t think he was that old either, RIP fella

Didn’t John follow England cricket to Australia, I remember watching the test early one morning and seeing him sat two rows back proudly wearing a Rovers shirt

Terrible news. My condolences to you and all his family and friends. Just goes to show, enjoy life as best we can.
Sad about Bromley fan dying at the game today. Results are not the most important thing in life, annoying yes but not the be all and end all.

Sad news. Didn't know him personally but might have seen him at games. A photo would always be useful at times likes this.

Was he a member of this forum?

RIP John.

Hope you don't mind me posting on here, on our way back through Doncaster to Leeds last night we came across your friend John and called the Ambulance. Was sad to see the news about him this morning.
Sorry for your loss. The football really is irrelevant at the end of the day isn't it.

On behalf of those who knew JB over the years and his friends and family I'm sure I speak for all when thanking you and any others for your help and assistance

Thanks for that Walsall Fan even though your help turned out to be in vain. As you say life itself transcends sport and puts things sharply inyo focus

Thanking you again Wolfie

Thanks Walsall fan.
I suppose it was fitting that John's last game was against Walsall. We often used to reminisce about a mad night there many, many years ago.
We won 3-1 at Fellows Park, and went on the lash in Birmingham. We got up to all sorts and ended up sliding down the middle of the escalators at New Street Station.
John woke up the next morning wondering why he'd got no arse in his jeans.
He was a special bloke, a bit of a hero of mine and I can't believe I won't see him again.
