Change of our expectations?
« on December 03, 2022, 02:54:28 pm by Canadian Rover »
This is to quote DS
"I can't question their effort, application or the way they're trying to play"

If the leader/manager/head coach sees that as unquestionable then the question needs to be asked what are we to expect? Should we as fans now accept we are a mid table L2 team for the next few seasons on the hope of building a playoff team? DS said he arrived aiming of the playoffs. Which really I thought would have been a minimum expectation.

Looking at how we have performed in general this season, I will be more than happy to finish mid table.
I have already given up hope of a play off place even though we are only a few points outside of seventh spot.
We are nowhere near good enough to get that.

I can understand why he doesn't question the way he wants them to play because it is his plan. Obviously though, we can make our own counter-judgements about effort and application neither of which were visibly satisfactory. His standards there need adjustment!

A more important question for him is "Is this a good way for them to play?" and "What steps is he taking to make them better at it," because he is acknowledging that they are only "trying to play" and not succeeding.

Most people watching would disagree that they failed only in the application of the method. Indeed it is possible that the way he wants them to play is the root cause of the failure.

Could it be the case that he's looking ahead to future arrivals who can and will play his type of game with more skill, control, pace and desire?

By instilling this philosophy now into the minds of his squad in the hope that it pays him back in spades when his reinforcements arrive to save the day.

Who am i trying to kid!

It was a question, not an opinion or fact. What do you think?

If Darren Ferguson, Grant McCann or Darren Moore were still managing the squad would we still be in this position? Very unlikely. It’s all down to successive inadequate managers, as it is their responsibility to build the right squad, play the right way and get the right results. Pretty obvious really. But the board can never hang on to the right managers yet other clubs can afford to poach and keep them.
