Kyle Knoyle Contract
« on December 12, 2022, 10:25:03 am by Canadian Rover »
Just been reading in the DFP that he still doesn't have a contract offer from the Rovers and that DS was planning on offering in January.

How are we still not learning as a club? Surely this lad was hungry to sign an extension months back? He's a new dad and I'm sure a 3 year contract offered 6 months ago would have been signed pretty quickly?

Instead I fear we are going to see him leave us on a free transfer...very similar pattern to all the decent full backs we've had in recent years.

Probably why he’s started playing better recently.

He's been good all season in fact probably player of the season.

That reads to me that he's definitely waiting for something better to come along

Probably played well in 50% of the games this season. In league 1 he was as good as any right back we’ve had in a while.

Be nice if he signs but I don’t think he’d be too hard to replace if he left, especially if we go up this season.

Now there's optimism for you! More likely that he will be offered something better in January, so his agent is delaying things.

Completely disagree im afraid. In league 1 we conceded far too many goals from crosses into the box from his side. He didnt get tight enough to the opposition winger.

For me league 2 is his level. He may well improve of course, but whilst hes a very good offensive full back, i still have resevervations about his defensive duties.

This in Spades.

Why would we offer a 3-year deal to a player who has been tested in Lg1 and not looked good enough if we're serious about getting back to Lg1?  Reasonable Lg2 player for sure IMO but nothing more.

totally agree with both above. He’s been part of our worst defence for many a year. I honestly wouldn’t lose any sleep if he or anyone else in this squad searched for pastures new.

It’s a strange one because technically he is one of our best players but he is not strong defensively at right back.  I think DS is trying to find a position that leaves him less exposed out wide, whilst still enabling him to contribute offensively.  Saturday’s move to the middle may have been a one-off but it wouldn’t surprise me if he had a bit of a run there.  I would definitely like him to stay.

He's a good player and developing like Reece James when he moved further forward. Not saying he's up to James' standards yet but he's shown he can be more versatile.

There's always three sides to contract negotiations, club, player and agent so it would be silly to assume we could just put a new contract in front of him and he'd happily sign it.

Back to the OP.
Yes I would want to keep Kyle Knoyle 100% don’t want to see him playing centre back though. His strength is getting forward down the wing, getting in crosses and assists. A few goals also which he showed on Saturday he is well capable of getting.

Anyone Cramby? Bit harsh that imo. I think we have some very decent players at the club.
We need 3 good additions to have a team that can compete at the top half of League 1 imo.

We just need a manager/Coach who can turn them into a team that is consistent. Hopefully that man is Danny Schofield.
Yes there are a few players I would clear out asap and replace with better, but I do think we have the nucleus of a good squad. Many of this squad are only going to get better as they are quite young.

They have underperformed so far this season. Hopefully we will see the true potential of this team in the 2nd half of the season. 2/3 good additions in January and who knows what might be possible.

Oh dear Padge we seem to disagree on most things Southgate and all that. In my opinion Knoyle’s OK going forward but as a defender he’s awful.

It’s pretty obvious Knoyle won’t be a DRFC player come season’s end. He’s a good lad but he’s no Jimmy O’Connor or a Paul Quinn. Actually I don’t see him as a standard fullback, he’s definitely a wingback like a poor man’s Trent Alexander Arnold - good going forward but defensively not so strong.

We must have had the same threads for every full back since Jimmy & Gareth.
Football, formations, roles have changed imo, I don't think you can keep comparing with these two.
Four four two is history.

I’ll be amazed now if he doesn’t already have back handed offers from other teams, 6 assists and a goal? On a free someone can offer him good wages. He will know what league he wants to be playing in.

I’d personally love to keep him, but I can’t see it if we stay in league 2

He was awful in league one, one of the biggest disappointments.

Can’t argue with his form though but he joined us in similar circumstances so I expect he will probably leave.

yes CR anyone I’m afraid. I agree that there are one or two capable players but ultimately all of them are replaceable. They’ve all played a part in our horrendous form at some point. There’s no Whiteman, Copps or Stocky in there, for example, that you’d be gutted to see leave.

He's far from the worse player this year........ and if he scores in the next game, some folk will be clambering to give him a 4 year contract....

He's consistently one of our better players, I'd say probably between  him and  Miller as our most valuable player.
I'd love us to get his contract sorted but I think he'll get a league 1 club next year.

Hard to say he wasn’t up to it in L1 with the circus surrounding him.

To be fair it's not the hardest accolade to win this season. Arguably the keeper I suppose is up there with him.

It’s a low bar but Knoyle, Mitchell and Miller have been the most consistent. Others have peaked and fallen but these three have been most consistent.

Are people really saying that because he wasn’t great last season during that circus that this means he’s not up to league one level?
He’s flying under Schofield and would only continue to improve under him if we were in league 1

I enjoy watching him play and he works hard. Great paired up with someone like Molyneaux (sp?). I hope he stays.

I'm with plenty of others: good going forward, hopeless defensively. Positional play (defensively) is awful. Looks quick going down the wing, runs through treacle going back
