Let's talk about the Crawley game
« on January 09, 2023, 03:02:29 pm by selby »
A game against another side fighting for their lives being fourth from bottom of Division 2, sounds easy doesn't it to a team on the fringe of a play off spot.
Well no not really, we are not too good against struggling sides who show a bit of fight and energy, as the games at Hartlepool and  Colchester hold testament to, and actually it is a very poor away form that puts Crawley in their worrying position having won five home games which is the same as top six sides Carlisle and Bradford City and one more than Salford City all in play off positions, but have only drawn one home game so a lose or win record.
We again slipped back at the Orient with no players getting more than a seven in the EFL paper and only Anderson scoring at that level, and that is the crux of our season, against Carlisle the week before we had six or seven playing at the top of their game, which has been a rarity in most games this season, when we are poor we tend to be  poor collectively in all areas of the pitch, and have no stand out players, and allow other teams to dominate the mid field especially.
The goal at Orient was something of a carbon copy of quite a few goals we have given away, with poor distance put on a clearance, and the resulting shot invite being gratefully taken.
So what do we envisage for this game, like most I am hoping we push the boat out and actually get some players with a bit of ambition and fighting spirit about their play in, but am not holding my breath.
    So what do you think?
Can we Raise our game and spirit again?
Will we get rolled over again by a bottom four team and get them back on track of staying in this division?
Or will we play somewhere near the level we have proved we can play at to get a much needed win on the road?
Will we have any new faces in the squad?
If you had the choice of strengthening two positions, which would they be?
Lots to discuss about this very important game, please have your say

Personally I don’t think the ratings quoted relate to the performance. We were in the first half excellent I only Orient defenders throwing themselves at everything kept us out. As we tired they came into the game more, even then it took a stunning strike to break the deadlock. Our problem lies now in the depth of the squad and lack of quality from the bench.
Hopefully Tommy will strengthen that and fingers crossed we get some loans/additions in (although we will probably wait until closing day)
Looking forward (sic) to another long trip but quietly confident of coming back with 3 points this week

As long as we keep the performance levels of the last 3 games (and I include Leyton Orient in that), we should be too strong for Crawley.

A forward striker to play alongside Miller and a hard working but skilful centre midfield player at least.

They’ve only won 5 games all season and they were all at home, including against Swindon, Barrow and Mansfield who are all above us. They’ve lost their last two at home though. Pretty poor defensively with only three clean sheets at home all season.

I see Tommy potentially coming in for Molyneux, I keep expecting Molyneux to start producing but it doesn't seem to happen, was expecting big things, maybe he was playing off someone at Hartlepool and we signed the wrong player?

Question for the stattos. Have we ever lost at Crawley? I can only remember a 1-1 draw, and a 5-0 win.

I think Molyneux is key to our improved performances, he’s been playing really well but needs a goal

We drew 0-0 on our last visit in 2017  so no we haven’t lost away.

So 2 draws and 1 win away.
At home 1 win 2 draws and 1 loss.
The game we lost was our 1st ever game against them in 2012

Nothing against Charlie Seaman but we are crying out for Knoyle to be playing at RWB he offers so much in that role and not much at RCB.

Yep, we were away for weekend and I went to  a local pub who advertised all sky games, they had to put it on special for me in lounge  as they hadn't put it on and locals were watching something else.  They had the better idea

They are changing managers every other week, this week it’s ex Rovers player Darren Byfield in charge

I can see Rowe going into the back three to accommodate this.  Would give us more balance but less pace back there.

It strange the most creative player knoyle has been nullified. Always play the best player in his best position no coincidence that Miller stopped scoring since kk cb.

Even if declared fit, I doubt very much Rowe will make the starting XI. Would be very welcome on the bench though.

No, I'll come with you, Brian. I put the toaster on the other day without any bread in. My granddaughter's concerned I might blow the house up.

The DFP are reporting that Tommy will be ready to return by Mid to Late January.
So that’s probably the Tranmere Home match at the earliest.

If that's the case, Spud, then we must have been on Sky at Crawley twice, because we were definitely on for the 1-1 draw.

Bloody awful game; Husband equalised for us late on. In the post match interview, Rob Jones lambasted the whole of the team performance.

Worst Tele game game is either Hartlepool away or that yeovil game at home where we gave them ball back to score from a quick free kick

Only beaten them the once at home which was the 4-1 victory back in September.
Your correct. I have corrected that in above post.  I had incorrectly put 2 wins at home. Should have been 1
