OK, guys, I've slated Saturday's performance as much as anyone. However, the more I've thought about it, the more I've realised that the 4-1 scoreline was ridiculously flattering to Mansfield; and here's 5 reasons why:Mansfield were nothing like the team that pumped us at the Eco, and actually looked quite poor, and there for the taking. Most of the decent football and passing movement came from the Rovers. As well as a well taken goal, we missed 2 absolute out and out sitters, which showed that we were creating chances. All 4 of Mansfield's goals were easily preventable, and 3 of them were total gifts from our defenders. The 2 lads who came on after the break, Brown and Lavery, looked very good players for League 2 level.I think all of the above is a fair assessment from someone who's neither a Netto brigader, nor a happy clapper. If DS sees what we can all see, and goes with the right line-up from the off next Saturday, I think we'll be OK.
The flair thrown on the pitch after we scored did us no favours. We were battering them 2nd half but it gave Mansfield a chance to have a breather and regroup.
I agree they took there chances through our bad defending and only other real chance they had Mitchell pulled off a great save,we wasn’t great 1st half but still created couple of chances but didn’t hit target but nothing new there, poss penalty appeal on seaman before he then hit shot out for nearly a throw in(not seen it back)2nd half looked a lot brighter til they scored their 3rd
I'm glad there's still people who can see things a little more objectively. Wasn't as bad as the day at Oakwell when we got beat 4-0 against 10 men when Darren Moore got his marching orders at 0-0. Theoretically, we had a good team then!
I personally don't think their second goal was handball. Looking at the highlights, I think the ball struck him at the front of the shoulder. The thing about that goal was that we didn't cut out the cross, and had 2 easy chances to clear the ball.
SS I’ve been saying that all weekend 1-0 Seaman switched off, Anderson reactively sticks out his leg2-0 blatant handball missed by ref3-1 Mitchell caught out of position (after keeper held ball for an eternity)4-1 decent goalIn amongst all this Seaman bundled over in the box, that miss by Miller and some worried defending from Mansfield
No mention of Millers penalty shout 2nd half?
No change though, brushed aside, better stats in most departments but let four goals in and you are not going to win many football matches. We are terrible in our own half of the field, even when we are in possession of the ball, the defence cannot be trusted, we have manufactured goals for other sides without them trying particularly hard to score, we have been including this last weekend at times comical, the only side capable of gifting goals like we do.
