Gwion Edwards
« on February 02, 2023, 11:45:01 am by Bessie Red »
I see that he has gone to Ross County for the rest of the season.
Now I don't know whether or not we would have been interested in signing him or not but he is a good solid EFL professional and at 29 yrs of age at the height of his career, so would be a great signing for a Lge 2 club. My question is, are the finances at Ross County as good or better than Lge 2 clubs. Do they have a very wealthy benefactor as their avg attendances are less than 5k? What sort of wages do you think a club like that will be paying a player like Edwards, surely a club our size could be offering as much if not more for a player of that calibre?
Thought anyone?

They signed 2 Ex DRFC player's, loanee Josh Simms , someone i would have like us to have been in for last season and Jordi Hiwula , who they are welcome to.

Even better they have signed Josh Stones on loan from Wigan, a striker we should have been in for last year.

Glad we weren't after Sims - he has played 10 games since signing in Feb 22, whilst Hiwula has been on fire scoring once in 21 appearances...

I know the OP doesn’t allude to us being after him, but does it matter what they pay if we are not in that market

I read that a Peterborough defender arrived at the club to sign for us on 31/01/23, but decided at the last minute to go to Swindon Town to play for their newly appointed a manager in preference to coming here. It's not always the pay and it will be as much the working environment and the personnel, particularly the manager, sorry, Head Coach.

At lge 2 level it is usually very much about the pay, an extra 50 a week would easily sway a lge 2 player.

Not quite the full story, Joe Tomlinson was about to sign for us , but Posh's new Manager (our ex) DF, decided he wanted to take a look at him first before deciding wether to let him go or not.
In the mean time we signed James Brown , so we didn't need JT any more , that's why he's gone to Swindon.

Well it’s certainly not down to pay as he’s on loan so his salary is unaffected. If what you say is true (and that’s a big IF) could it possibly be because he played for Swindon last season and wants to return to a club and area he’s familiar with, and not because you don’t like Danny Schofield?

Yep, agree with all of that.
