3 up 3 down
« on February 22, 2023, 11:31:34 am by Branton Rover »
It seems like the Hollywood duo at Wrexham are bringing pressure to bear on the football league & the EFL are wobbling sparking fears amongst some that an extra place will be opened in the non league trap door.

Wrexham are currently 2nd in the Conference five points behind Notts C with 2 games in hand & are not wanting to miss out on promotion again if they don’t get automatic promotion.

I’m not saying 3 up 3 down is necessarily a bad thing but the power the wealthy wield is over the top & League two clubs could be out voted and this could be imposed, leaving the smallest clubs susceptible to going out of business.

The EFL  clubs would have to vote on it, it’s not going to come in this season

Well they can’t bring it in this season.
So Wrexham will still have to get promoted through the play offs if they don’t win the league this season.

Yes bring it in next season. It is well over due.  Can’t believe far more noise has not been made about it up to now.
Only one team being automatically promoted is ridiculous.

Yes the top of the conference is a good standard. In the last 10 years, no conference champions have gone straight back down the following season. That might even go back further?

Let it be 3 up and down. The conference looks a lot like the old fourth div as it is.
And I too am sick of the Welsh “love in” with Wrexham. They hate the English. With a passion.

If 3 up 3 down comes in between the National League and League Two, it may signal a change to the same numbers between League Two and League One.

I’m not sure why it was ever 4 up 4 down, other than perhaps so that there were 6 new teams in each league at the start of each season?

Bring back Re-election now that was a good system.

Especially when Wigan shot themselves in the foot

Vying for Election to Div 4 they handed out Pens inscribed  "Into the League with Wigan Borough *"

The 4th Div Chairmen thought it smacked of bribery and no doubt not very good bribery and kept them out for another Season.

I’d go as far as going with 4 up 4 down. I just think it gives clubs a chance to get back up without breaking the bank and rewards those who out perform.

It needs a re jig down there. The top two plus a playoff winner seems fair. You would expect grounds to be good enough to host league two football if promoted. Some decent teams have probably just failed over the years, because you get a big spender like Wrexham or Notts county and your side might have a great season but you just can’t beat two sides like that over the season.

The lower leagues need that boost. It’s more interesting for us the fans facing different side’s and there is more of a fairness, instead of a restricted few only getting promotion. The top three or four in the Conference would all hold their own in our league.
