A good read. He did really well for us, but got an offer he couldn’t refuse. It wasn’t great how he left, but he was offered a bigger job, you can’t blame him for taking it, he has his own family to think of.

He knew what he wanted to do with the team. They’re a method in the madness of each player he brought in. Our manager needs to do the same. McCann also adapted to a formation that suited the players he had at other clubs. You must do that, first and foremost you are employed to win games, everything after that is a bonus.

Not sure I have ever been as proud of a team after the Charlton away play off game.. great performance.

Loved his style of play, oh to watch his football now.

I’m sure I saw it mentioned somewhere that he’d been seen at a game or two of ours shortly after getting the boot from Peterborough. I did momentarily get excited, for the first time about Rovers in ages, but then reality dawned on me that it ain’t going to happen any time soon. We can dream.

He was going to replace him he had a list of players which he said in the interview he contacted to say he was moving on. The CH to replace Butler went to Hull with MCCann.

McCaan is like Moore & Saunders. They all got offers from clubs that put them on ‘a bigger stage’ & left Rovers while still under contract.

For McCaan & Saunders it ultimately didn’t work out although I’ve no doubt we haven’t seen the last of McCaan but never ever never back here.

Wouldn’t want him back, he left us in a mess getting rid of our better players then left, can’t be trusted not to do the same

"This was another League One side, but with an even smaller budget"

Don't think anyone's surprised by this

He was comparing it to Peterborough's. But to suggest they had a small budget in LG1 was incorrect.

How do Peterborough manage? Their crowds are the same as ours and don't have an extra income stream like Club Doncaster? Assume the chairman is chucking his own money at it constantly?

Buy players cheap, sell on for millions later

I was fascinated at the time by Coppinger's response to McCann's departure. "Icy" doesn't begin to do it justuice.

Hadn't McCann been spouting off about loyalty to the club from players before he jumped ship?
He went to a perceived better club for probably more money I have no problem with that, would I want him back mmmmm??

No they don't. Folk only tend to see the tip of the iceberg. The players they have sold in recent years are the exception, not the norm.

For me McCann specifically was referring to Danny Andrew jumping sideways to Fleetwood for a few sheckles more rather than sticking with us to have another crack at promotion. It was more about ambition than loyalty, so I have no problem when the call comes from clubs higher in the pyramid.

I would have McCann back if the opportunity arose

We should be so lucky.

The highest fee Rovers have ever received for a player was £2m, & that was 14 years ago.

Depends what they're shelling out too. Balance that out with the high turnover of players in the same period.

They are still very reliant on the owners input.

Peterborough have paid over a million pounds for players on five occasions.
I would say they have made considerably more than they have paid out.

If they got £1.3m for Eisa they have done the deal of the century.

Would imagine that out of those fees they would have had sell on clauses to honour too. Not knocking it as they have made money

The thing with Peterborough isn’t just that they find these players it’s also that they play a way that puts the in the window best. Attacking scoring goals and generally been entertaining.

If we want to start cashing in on talented players like Hurst we need to attack more to get them talked about

I missed off Szmodics to Blackburn for £1.8m

High turnover of players? Balance it with our Club and see what a contrast there is!
