When you look into this tragedy you have to ask just where have all the EU regional structural funds that should have enabled a 21st century functional railway for Greece disappeared to? It's a crying shame that the EU who would argue the toss with us over the slightest none conformance have allowed vast amounts of money to just disappear into the ether with barely a passing reference to it all ?
It also highlights the very good (one of the best in the world)safety record we have here in the UK, for all the knocks and jibes that are delivered about railways in the UK we can say that this type of incident would be very difficult to recreate in this country because of the safety systems and rules and regulations we impose on our Railway.

We have an excellent safety record on our railways until it comes down to Network Rail following their own procedures.
Regardless such a tragedy in Greece RIP

You've contradicted your own post, the excellent safety record we have on our railways is exactly because Network Rail follows its own safety operating procedures?
