Charlie Seaman
« on March 12, 2023, 01:50:47 pm by Branton Rover »
He showed yesterday that he shouldn’t be let go if his contract is reaching its end. I thought he was outstanding because he was deployed in a new role & it paid off - Charlie is a 2 footed player which is unusual in itself because although naturally a right footer he’s comfortable using his left peg to slot in beautifully at left wing back. He reminded me of David Mulligan who was a two footed fullback equally adept on either flank.

I have no problem with Joe Olowu winning man of the match he was terrific but for me considering Charlie played in a new position and handled it great he was my man of the match. Well done Charlie we have now filled the problem left wing back position with Maxwell’s injury.

Yes I thought he did very well, bags of energy, plenty of resilience. Joe was massive but then he usually is.

MoM for me too.

He gives glimpses of there being a very good player inside, but he's never kept up the standard consistently. If he could play like yesterday regularly, we'd have a very good player.

Superb cross for the first goal by the way.

Out of contract in two months.

Tough one.

Has he deserved a new contract on average performances over the last 2 years? Not really close.

Would be deserve a new contract if he could maintain yesterday's standard? 100%.

My thoughts exactly.
We were saying much the same during the game.
He has very good skills with the ball.

I didn’t realise he was 2 footed. He’s got decent athleticism too.

If we persist with wing backs he could be useful cover for 2 positions on either side.

That way we can have 3 wing backs in the squad rather than 4.

Let’s see if he can keep up the consistency.

Yeah I had him down as MOTM too, thought he was excellent yesterday. It’s a strange scenario as he needs games to get some consistency but just when you think he has it he is out of the team

Spot on assessment. If he gets some regular gametime i think he'd be afirst team regular, either side of the pitch.

I thought he had a great game against Carlisle; particularly in the build up to that excellent second goal.

I just don't understand why this team can perform like they did that day, and be so terrible in most of the other games.

We did play well SS and don’t want to take anything away from from how well we performed that day but I honestly think Carlisle had a seriously off day. They didn’t turn up.
Since that match their form has been league winners form. Only really bad off day since then, 0-4 at home to was it Mansfield or Salford can’t remember.

Excellent yesterday and was my MOTM, just ahead of Close. Was performing well when he got a run of games at RWB earlier on in the season aswell. I’d defo be offering him a new deal.

If played in a more advanced position, he will get goals because he has a decent shot on him.

We saw that when he was on loan to Maidstone, but Rovers have not really used him properly.

Given we are goal shy, I think he deserves the chance to make his case until the end of the season.

I think he's a confidence player. That's why his form is up and down. Saturday's game should have done his confidence a world of good. Watch out for a good performance this Saturday.

I’d play him in place of Brown when Maxwell is fit

He is ideal to play in a 4-5-1 formation, in a wide left or right role, because he gives you the attacking side, plus tracking back to cover the full back.
He hasn’t done enough to get another contract so far. We can’t have another couple of seasons like this. Dire last season and heavily underachieving this season. We need improvement in all areas.

I’ve been pretty disappointed in Brown. We had all this fanfare that losing Knoyle didn’t matter as we were getting someone far better, but aside from a bit of early promise I don’t think that’s been the case at all.

Agree on Brown, gets forward quickly but ambles back. I've been very disappointed in him.

I have said many times previously, when people were saying he’s our stand-in right back, that he was playing very well at left midfield when he went on loan to Maidstone. He was never a right back and more a wing back or left midfielder. Played well at Thorne Colliery in a similar position, before he got injured, back in pre-season.

Our defence has been much more solid with Brown in there compared to Knoyle.  We've conceded 7 goals in 9 games that's pretty good.  Scoring them has been our issue.

If we're going with proper wing backs it shouldn't necessarily be there job to always be at the defensive line they should be pushed far up the pitch.

He's a bit of a conundrum is Seaman, my MOTM on Saturday but those performances are few and far between. Depending on his wage I would be inclined to offer him a deal

I think the jury is still out on Seamen if for nothing more than the guy has had very little opportunity to show us his worth. At the start of the season he was played in about three or four different positions and then got injured, his long layoff coincided with our decent start to the season and he was virtually forgot about after that. It seemed his injury took an age to get over and to be honest he looked like he was carrying a few extra ponds even before it.

Now he's had a chance to get in the team with a bit of luck he can cement a place and show us his worth, i think we have seen nowhere near his value so far at Rovers and i would be inclined to offer a contract extension, subject to financial limitations, ect.

With some sort of extended run i think he could get match fit and be a useful addition to us.
