Let's talk about the Northampton Town game
« on March 22, 2023, 01:31:15 pm by selby »
A game against the third top side in the league as it stands, and the team standing at the top of the current division1 form table, and after our scintillating form and showing at Crawley should send a warning  to everyone including our technical department that we could be in for a thumping if we don't get it together.
Last night five or six players mostly defenders carried the rest for the majority if not all of the game, our midfield especially poor again as a unit.  Repeat that Saturday and we will get a mauling.
What team we turn out will be ruled by injuries but just as much by a blue moon, and ideas that come straight out of dream land that some of our players can do things they have yet to show us that they really can tackle, pass a ball to a team mate and head crosses away from danger'
Yet again last night they conceded a goal giving the opposition time and space to pick their spot from 20 plus yards right in front of the D of the penalty area, just who is the defensive coach and does Schofield actually do one on ones with the players, if he does it is landing on stony ground and the midfielders especially are as thick as planks, or he doesn't, which could be seen as even worse than nobody taking any notice of him or the coaches.
In Hoskins Northampton have the second highest scorer in the division on 19 goals, the team is in superb form and are and have been all season genuine promotion hopefuls, so a vast improvement on last evenings form is needed from our own team, are we capable of it?
The interesting question to me is what Schofield will do with Bobby Faulkner, who I thought did well even shoved wide left of the three and actually tackled their winger something not seen by us in that area of the field for some time.
Another worry is just how fit are our players, too many looked to be getting cramped up or leggy last night for it to be a coincident and had me question our general fitness.
So what do you think, Sink or swim? will we fiddle about with formations?
Will Goodman get a few minutes, and I would integrate Will Flint from the u18s a youngster with a future and a defensive central mid fielder in the making, something we just have not got at the club at first team level, this game should be used as a free hit, and some more of the youngsters given a chance, they can't do any worse than some who have had chance after chance and failed every step.
Lot's to talk about, lots to mull over of how the club and the team progress from here.as I  have written and alluded to I would turn to youth and it might just get some spectator interest back, certainly Faulkner would play every match for me, and others get a few minutes every game, and no fear of a start if we have injuries for some.
What do you think, please have your say.

I know one thing for certain; I won't be there, even though I've paid for the game.

If I want to have pain inflicted on me, I can go and visit Miss Whiplash, that BB recommended to me.

One of the few teams we can do the double over and it would not surprise me really, surprise results happen every season with teams having it over other sides no matter how poor they are.

For the first time this season I am seriously and I mean seriously considering doing something else instead as I really cannot see us doing anything other than being embarrassingly outplayed at home yet again but this time conceding a fair few goals.

Ironically, as I drove home from the return fixture on a lovely sunny evening, basking in a first rate performance from the Rovers ( Faulkener different class and easily MOM ) I really did think we had put a decent side together at last, and I was full of optimism for the season ahead

Northampton were scared shitless by Tomlin that day, Clayton ran the show and the rest showed balls and fight.

Sorry but on balance Mc Sheffrey's side was streets ahead of where we are now

Yes, and BB and me had a f*cking arse brace on when she'd finished with us.

Better than the Rovers though. At least she went about her job professionally.

Is it wrong that part of me hopes we get absolutely battered so the club have more pressure put on them to get rid of him. But I think we will lose 2-0.

We’ve nothing to play for. If getting battered brings about the needed change it’d be a good thing.

Hope we win & play well and it’s the start of the Schofield era. But if he’s going to carry on like this at least get it over with quickly. I want to look forward to next season

I have decided to give it a miss, going to watch the Knights this weekend. Least its decent food! I am really not that bothered about rugby but I am happy to pay £20 odd to watch something different. Season ticket will be unused!

Plus you can have a pint in your seat while you watch the game if that’s your thing.

Is schofields approach to this game going to be “full throttle” again ?

However many we get beat by he will still come out with the same old platitudes and say how pleased he was with our performance.

Well it’s all about the process even Copps is saying the same thing. Another defeat and poor display then what will happen next. They believe they are doing the right thing.

Calm down now and don't worry lads - the DFP is reporting DS has tumbled what's amiss;

"We need to improve on chance creation, in the final third"

"And we need to be better defensively"

I wonder just how long these coaching courses are to fully develop such a half wit.

There is me, my lad, brother and father. Dad has followed rovers for over 60 year. Me just a mere 35. My lad usually brings along a couple of mates too.
No entertainment = no motivation to go. No motivation to bring others.
You have to see a little return for your investment. Win lose or draw.
There has been nothing for the majority of this season. And I don’t see it getting any better anytime soon.

                            Moore

Brown   Faulkner   Anderson   Olowu    Seaman

                             Close

            Westbrooke          Rowe

            Molyneux             Lavery

Get Bobby dealing with Hoskins. Tommy’s legs have gone I’m afraid can’t have him wide defence.
Minutes for Goodman and Ravenhill off the bench.
Not a great team but we are where we are.

Bloody hell. He has got it. We are saved. All is hunky dory. 9 wins on the bounce coming.

If we win 3 of the 9 now I will be amazed.

What have we been working on them! Basically they guy will say whatever to end an interview. DFP should stop doing them and interview fans post match instead. Will give their readers a honest insight into the game if they couldn’t go

Moore isn’t having his emergency loan extended so expect Mitchell will be back in (DS said he was back on the grass on Thursday).

I've bought a ticket. I'm optimistic. I look forward to seeing a new player.
