Most memorable Championship games
« on March 24, 2023, 06:40:42 pm by Upton Rover »
Can’t believe what’s happened in the past two years , So glad I have good memories, what are your top memories of our time in the Championship?
For me it’s got to be Rovers V Boro at home when King Billy played in that very emotional night after the death of his son Louie Jacob, El-Hadji Diouf was making his debut for Doncaster in the game and made the assist for Sharp's goal on 14 minutes, flicking the ball to the striker, who caught the ball sweetly with a brilliant dipping volley which left Middlesbrough keeper Jason Steele with no chance. Billy celebrated by taking off his Rover’s shirt after kissing the badge to reveal a red t-shirt with the words “that’s for you son”
FANTASTIC TIMES
Let’s have some more memories

The first game away at Derby surely has to rate up there as very special. I have a mate who is lifelong rams. He too was there in the home end and he still says to this day we are the loudest away following he has ever experienced there.

In 08/09 our lowest home attendance was 9500 against Swansea. Average home attendance was around 11900.
Heady days indeed. Finished 14 th above palace and Derby

Home against Wednesday when Billy scored in front of the Black Bank and ran right back to the centre circle to goad the Wednesday fans

Watching that gets me quite emotional. They don’t let away fans in the south stand at ER anymore. Me and my lad and brother were there. What a day. What a team. They should show this to the current crock they call a team.

The thing about that season was were were only just beaten by the odd goal in the games up to that point, I remember Wolves at home, we played them off the park and got beat by the odd goal, I think they won the league that year as well

3-0 win at Millwall, for Millwall fans to applaud an opposition goal shows how good we were.

Yes that was a great day out ... especially enjoyed the Balloons with 10% of them being Green in honour of Paul Green

For those who don't know he was transferred to Derby pre Season having been a Fans favourite

I was touched by that tribute and I am sure he MUST have been.

The result was good too

One that sticks out for me was at Crystal palace, think we won 3-1 or something and we passed them off the pitch.

Another excellent performance was at Southampton when they were in trouble and we won, good days.

One that sticks out as well was a defeat against Swansea at home, out footballed us totally, but thinking about it that might have been in league 1

QPR at home when we won 2-0 and put together something like 35 passes.

West Ham away. Drew 1-1 (I think) but Diouf and Sharp were excellent

Definitely Filo, despondent at half time, ecstatic in the second half.

Wasn’t that game in league 1 the season we went up?

I think you’re thinking of a different game, we were 3 or possibly even 4 nil up at half time in that one.

3-0 up at half time. Woods, Heffernan and Wellens. We did go 4-0 up in second half (Heffernan) before Forest pulled two goals back later in the game.

Any game in that run of wins from Forest on Boxing Day onwards.

From thinking the Championship was an enjoyable yet brief adventure to seeing us put that incredible set of results (and performances) together.

Joyously stunned disbelief.

Pick outs: -

Burnley at home (game after Forest) against a top quality Championship side. Rovers winning in front of a packed stadium

Later that season. Away at Ipswich. Thoroughly outplaying a very good Championship team 2nd half on their own patch.

Great memories!

I didn’t get to Forest was recuperating from a broken back that must be our most complete performance in the Championship - I remember winning at Crystal Palace think it was 3-1 two from Billy & a Martin Woods strike - after the match couldn’t believe what some of our idiot fans said afterwards they were moaning about SOD playing Mark Wilson in midfield & we’d just won 3-1 away from home at Selhurst Park, unbelievable.
