Dons

Looking like they are on for a 100% league record after 5 games. And that's included playing every major promotion candidate barring the very strong Dewsbury side at the top of the league.

Hopefully this is the promotion year after 2 very near misses.

Big one away at Dewsbury next week.

That's going to be a really tough match and you'd fancy Dewsbury to win the league. But the Dons are head and shoulders ahead of the rest of the division apart from them.

Be fantastic for the city and for Club Doncaster if they could get promotion.

They have stuck with the coach after finishing playoff losers for the last 2 years and if it was football he would have been poached ,I think this could be the year for the dons

You'll be playing my club Wakefield Trinity in the championship the way we are carrying on this season .

Good Luck to the Dons this season and I hope you get promoted .

Dewsbury away next n all.

Dons always have good seasons/are always in the hunt.

Their shirts are lovely, too.

COYD!

I hope my team Featherstone Rovers won’t be playing yours Tyke next season.
Prefer it if you and Cas both stay up. 2 tasty local derbies. Well 4 really. H & A of course.  :)

Sounds like a very even first half. Dewsbury have been crushing sides so far this year.

Came back from 22-16 down as well. A good result against the nearest rival. Just need Dewsbury to slip up a couple of times to make it really interesting.

Don't even need that.

If the Dons win all their intervening matches, they go into the final match of the season at home to Dewsbury knowing a win gives them the title.

Is that a home game and when is it?

At home 27 August.

Two tough matches coming up in the next month, away at Hunslet and Workington in 4th and 5th place. Win those and that last game of the season will be monumental.

From 22-6 down. Oldham scoring first in the second half really should have won them the game, but this Dons team have an incredible spirit and have won a few games they really had no right to.

Another bit of trivia from the day:

Doncaster are the only team to beat Oldham this year, and have done it three times

Yeah but last week, getting mullered by Midlands Hurricanes was a disaster. That finished any realistic chance of winning the league.

Brilliant result today. What a shame they threw it away with that awful run of results in July.

Complicated system. Dons are slightly handicapped by finishing 3rd. They'll have a harder route than if they'd finished 2nd.

Home against Oldham next week

Just seen the structure on Wiki - couldn't find it on RL site. If I have it right it looks like we have to win three matches to be promoted, including the last one. There are 4 rounds and we could afford to lose one of the first 2 rounds. If we win both the first two we go straight to the final. I am now dizzy and need to lie down, makes the National League Football playoffs look simple

If its like last year, I THINK it goes like this

Dons v Oldham

Winners play at Hunslet.

Winners of that go through to final and have home advantage.

Workington vs North Wales.

Winners of that play losers of Dons v Oldham

Winners of that play losers of Hunslet game.

Winners of that play away in final.

32-0 in last few mins.  Radio Manc commentators are effusive in praise of Dons. Big, strong, fast, organised. Just overwhelmed Oldham who finished 4th.

Just said "Oldham have worked hard but they've been frankly outclassed by a better and stronger side."
