DRFC museum - fan led
« on June 23, 2023, 01:34:14 pm by silent majority »
I've posted on here before about creating a virtual museum that supporters could all contribute to. That did attract some support at the time.

In recent weeks I've spoken to the club again and they pitched an idea which might be workable as a physical museum located at the Eco Power stadium. But it would have to be a fan led project, in other words we decide what we want to see and contribute some time to ensure it runs efficiently.

The question I need to ask, is there anybody out there who would be interested in getting involved? If so let me know.

I think it's a fabulous idea - I always liked the football exhibit in the old museum with lots of Rovers stuff, and the old bar in town with the 'Richardson Out' banner and rovers shirts on the wall was always good for a pint and stare at the walls.

Do you know what type of help is required SM? Is it for donations of items to exhibit or time to build displays and 'work' in the museum?

It'll be a combination of all 3, but the biggest help would be in manning the museum at certain times. The club, for obvious reasons, wouldn't want to employ somebody.

You sort of do... I've got it. You lent it me for the fanzine's 100th issue bash.

Surely your superb Archive of Programmes through Rovers History is exactly what this Museum needs as a "centrepiece"

Imagine going in and have a resource like that at your fingertips.

I've often thought that a comprehensive Player's Who's Who would be a good idea .

I think John Coyle/The Red Baron has numbered all Rovers players and could provide a magnificent resource (if he hasn't already)

Perhaps it would be a good idea to invite Scawsby Steve and DonnyWolf to welcome visitors to the museum and tell of their experiences in the early days of the club's formation, including their participation in moving the 1000-seater main stand from the old Intake Ground to the new Bennethorpe Ground (Belle Vue).

Thanks to everyone who has responded and offered help, it’s very much appreciated.

I should now be able to discuss this with the club in the knowledge that it would work along the lines we’ve mentioned.

Thanks to Hamilton, I had you down as a resource after you responded when I mentioned the virtual museum some time ago!

PS - I will let everybody know if and when we make progress.
