Don Valley no more
« on June 28, 2023, 07:22:14 pm by BillyStubbsTears »
Boundary changes are about to be confirmed and the Don Valley constituency is being dumped.

Mostly split into bits of two new constituencies

Rawmarsh and Conisbrough (running from Edlo to Wentworth, but excluding Mexborough)

Doncaster East and Axholme (running from Rosso to the edge of Scunny)

I know the boundaries have to be drawn somewhere, but these feel very artificial constructs.

Moorends and Epworth don't have much in common, a cynic might think it's to balance votes out

You're right, Raven. The old school has completely gone, and has been replaced by a brand new one.

2 Things from OP

The Constituency will be "Doncaster East and The Isle of Axholme" after residents of IoA wanted their full title and Boundary Commission agreed

However considerable protests against this change of Constituencies composition were over ruled by the same BC as the changes were deemed " minor" when compared to other changes nationwide

Looks like Thorne and Moorends and Hatfield are being joined by Crowle Belton Epworth Wroot Beltoft and Sandtoft plus of course Haxey which I think gives its name to the Isle of Axholme.

Holme means island usually so Lindholme equals Island of Lime (trees) and strangely Isle of Axholme equals Isle of Haxey Isle

Confusing like the Boundary changes

"www.electoralcalculus.co.uk/fcgi-bin/calcwork23.py?seat=Doncaster East and Axholme"

Unsurprisingly a Labour win predicted in this new seat but with only a majority of 5,874 which is not particularly high given the state the Tories are in currently as reflected in current polling.

Going forward given the make-up of this new constituency I can see this becoming a swing/bell-weather seat.

Good we're due a change.

It's been a tory area all my life,no doubt due to the huge farmer's vote.

Wonder which of the divided bits Fletcher will try to win , if any

Hope he gets hammered whichever he chooses.
