Succession
« on June 29, 2023, 08:41:41 pm by tommy toes »
I've read so many great reviews of this show, and heard people raving about how good it is, so I thought I'd give it a try.
I've now watched seven episodes and given up.
What a bunch of horrible narcissistic psychopaths, and I couldn't care less what happens to them.
Most of all it's boring.

Am I missing summat?

Watch "The Idol", Tommy; then you'll really see the dregs of the Earth.

Saw the trailer for that SS and it made me shudder.

Luckily I've never seen the Sopranos so here goes....

I got bored with Sopranos after about 3 seasons. It just never seemed to be going anywhere.

I watched it for a Series but then like you didn't care if they all caught fire. Mrs DW went the distance though

Have you ever watched "The night of" as in where we you on the night of . I watched the first episode and was hooked. I recommend it to people when they ask if I've watched "owt good" , but nobody has ever come back and commented good or bad

One shock I got was I kept hearing "Breaking bad" but it didn't sound interesting (I can't explain why). Then I watched "His Honor" I think it was called and was quite good. A review said with this actor from Breaking Bad it just has to be good

So after watching His Honor I tried Breaking bad expecting to be bored rigid and I wasn't. I thought it was brilliant and still do, and it's one of the first things I say if people ask have you seen owt good now

In that vein , has anyone else got any tips please ?

I've seen first 15 mins of Game of Thrones !

I've seen Ozarks initially good but they have to get less plausible the longer they run

Anyone seen "The night of" and liked it or hated it

Apparently it's on Amazon Prime and has a 94% rating by those who watched , and is an 8 episode mini series

Wolfie
Breaking Bad is the best thing I've ever seen on the telebox.
First watched it years ago and watched it all again last year.

Watched the first 3 episodes of Sopranos now and am quite impressed.

Have seen one episode of His Honour and it looks promising.

Couldn't get on with Game of Thrones, gave up after 2 episodes.

Haven't got Amazon prime, so can't watch The Night Of.

I concur with Breaking Bad being the best thing I have ever watched. Not a single weak episode. I don’t usually re-watch shows, but I’ve done BB three times.
Its prequel, Better Call Saul, is excellent too.

Bloody hell Tommy - Breaking Bad, Count Arthur Strong- I reckon we could be really good mates in a parallel universe.

Talking of things I've rewatched.
Just finished Early Doors yet again.
That really was comedy gold.
So many great characters and something new every time you watch it.

Just watched Episode 1 of " The night of" again since I posted how it grabbed me

I did watch it about 3 months ago as well and the only downside is I am not seeing it for the first time but still really good

It lasted 75 minutes I think and I'm going to have to watch it all again.

I just got through the IOM TT Races  recordings from early June

For t'other tt off here  .....I looked at list of a few things I sampled and wrote down with a view to watching soon and True Detectives is there so I'll give that a go next

Loved watching all of these. The Black Mirror anthology on Netflix is good too.

‘The Last Kingdom’ series on Netflix.

Learned more about that period of history than I imagined & all through the story of a believable ‘hero figure’.

Ended up binge watching some nights with my wife, 3 episodes a night wasn’t unusual!

Thoroughly recommend it.

One of the best comedies ever. Full of standout moments , both happy and sad . The lollipop man sketch is pure genius

What was the football based series where most of the action took place in the clubhouse. That  was Craig Cash and Diane Morgan
Edit
Just found it, Rovers, well worth a watch if it's available anywhere

I think Succession is brilliant. You're not supposed to like any of the characters, they're all the worst people ever. But it does shine a light on the sort of bas**rds who unfortunately run the world, what they're like, and what they get away with.

I will say Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul are the two best shows ever by some distance though. Perfection.

I enjoyed watching For All Mankind on Apple TV recently. It's a what if sci fi about what would've happened if the Soviets were first to the moon, and the space race never ended. Really interesting stuff.

True Detectives is worth a watch Wolfie.
The first series especially, and the music used is outstanding.

I enjoyed Gotham.

I think we already know about the bas**rds that run things and what they're like, we've had enough evidence here lately.
I'd rather not spend my time watching em. Plus I genuinely thought it was tedious, although Brian Cox is magnificent.
Having said that, it is a very popular series, so I guess I'm in a minority.

I thought ‘The Thick of it’ was hilarious and Malcom Tucker a superb Machiavellian comedy creation.
On a similar, yet much gentler theme, I just bought a complete box set of ‘Yes Minister’ and ‘Yes Prime Minister’ for £1 off EBay. Looking forward to seeing whether that has aged well.
