I think if there was a team on par with Preston in for him realistically we'd have got  £2.5 - £3m with add ons. However there wasn't and it appears there was a gentleman's agreement in place between Ben & the club's hierarchy, so the fee was what it was.
Also the transfer was coming off the back of the COVID pandemic which was a testing time for the majority of clubs.

Oh there's been a few.

Alex oxlade chamberlain
Jordan Rhodes
Fabian Delph
Ben brereton Diaz
Yanic wildshut
Britt assombalonga
Gary madine
James Justin
Dele alli
Alfie mawson
Ivan Tony

To name a few .

We gave whiteman away, just bemusing reading the comments from a tiny microcosm of rovers happy clappy fans on here.

Ask most rovers fans, and they'll say just how bad our transfer business has been. Including Ben whiteman

Whiteman is a very good player, but almost all of those are senior group International players, including some who have played for England in the World Cup. He’s not in that category.

I hope you’ve got proof of these transactions because there’s people on here who will check the dates, leagues and fees

What we have to take into account is what's negotiated when we were successful in extending his contract in the first place. If you try to put too many restrictions in his new contract, including a silly release value, he and his agent just simply wouldn't sign the extension and he could have walked away for nothing.

Then of course, once Preston table a bid which meets the minimum valuation (as said above with no other competing club) you have to get a balance with the fee and the sell on clause plus any other add ons.

Ben openly talked about the move after he left which Mr Soprano conveniently ignores.

Not at the time of their transfers.
Their clubs negotiated a reasonable fee.
Other clubs unfortunately know we are push overs

Tony or whoever you this week you’re moving the goalposts, Ben Whiteman has improved as a player and now he might be a £5 million player, but not then.
Why don’t you go with the positives not spend hours of your time slagging OUR club off, I bet it really gauled you when Ben Close scored the second

If he was so obviously worth so much more why were only Preston willing to pay it? Plenty of clubs in championship with the money so if it was such a bargain you’d have expected a few more bids.

More to the point, if it's common knowledge, why would we need to search for it?

I was a bit surprised today when I looked at the table to see who's turn it was to be top and saw they were top and decided we should all become Preston supporters hoping he signs an extension

Must add a word about Southampton they have suicidal to the extreme in the goals they give away as if allegedly "by design "
I think I read that Russell Martin, the Southampton manager, is a fully paid up member of the process cult. I watched them v Leicester the other day. They insisted on tapping it out from the back and gave away chance after chance. Does it sound familiar? Their fans are up in arms apparently.

I didn't realise until after Southampton's win today they were unbeaten in 21 league games  they obviously have "put their finger on how to fanny about at the back "   then I thought about the chances of Preston winning the play offs  (in my dreams) ... i thought maybe 66/1

but you can get 250/1 with betvictor  so the chance of us getting any cash of the "whiteman piggy bank" seems to be zero as he is a free agent and he seems to have Sheffield United tattooed on him .......  now who was that United Manager who took pity on us and constructed the transfer so we could afford him. Chris Wilder !!

But Wilder stays I could see them loaning us a couple next season.

For starters Diaz has never played in league one.
Huddersfield were in the championship when they sold Rhodes, madine has only gone for a fee once and that was when he left championship Bolton. Mawson left championship Barnsley to sign for Swansea.

So as per usual what you’ve written as fact is just made up nonsense

He’s not a free agent he signed a new deal at Preston very recently, the sell on fee still stands, what we negotiated I have no idea.

I'll give you Diaz, seems transfer market might have been incorrect at the time.

But your wrong on Rhodes and mawson, they both left in pre season after their clubs got promoted from league 1.
Gary madine, grey area, seems swfc paid more that a million for him from Carlisle.

So out of your nit picking, only 1 player out of my list might have been incorrect. So my point is still 100% valid, and you as usual make yourself look a fool.

What Rob Ghosh fails to take into account are the clubs these players were sold to. Preston aren’t an especially rich club I’d imagine?
