Away form
« on October 07, 2023, 05:00:39 pm by scawsby steve »
5 defeats out of 6, with a lot of luck needed for the solitary win, against a very poor side.

This is relegation form, so we'd better make sure we maintain our improvement at home.

GM needs to work out why we're so appalling away from home.

Anderson aside, we've been good today

It oversimplifies the situation but we had a few strong chances today but made a mess of them all, and then went to sleep for their goal. Stockport were a decent side but they scored because our defence wasn't focused.

Doesn’t help that the players can’t run after about 75 mins. We were great off the ball in the first half. We don’t show enough controlled quality in the final third though. We don’t create enough to really get teams troubled.

What chances? 1 from Stockport gifting it to Faal? Nothing from us. Really poor today.

We’re in good form, just need to park this one and move on.

That's ridiculous, it needs analysing just as every match does.

The hype in pre season is what is seriously bumming me out. We are nowhere near being good enough to gain promotion this season. We concede 9 times out of 10 and not a high scoring team. Maybe after January we might be but, by then I feel we will be too far behind other teams. Behind the these negatives though, big strides have been made. Depressing as it feels but, from the Notts County game to now we are a very different side.

Thought we got battered in last 20 minutes, they missed some absolute sitters.
Prior to that fairly even, but in all honesty never looked like scoring and our passing just wasn’t on it today.
Usual 3 year story, concede from a cross with central defenders just staring at the scorer who’s completely free.
Table has taken shape now, so we can see we’re in a fight to put some distance between us and the relegation zone, so plenty to play for.

Still think we can finish top half but we need to start playing for 90 minutes, not 60 minutes.

To add as well, in my opinion, the OP is ridiculous. This team will win games and then the personell will improve over a few windows. I am NOT a patient person but, it has to be accepted.

It’s not ridiculous, ober the last 6 games were in very good form, today we’ve lost to probably the best team in the league via a late goal.

Other than Newport every away game so far has been a very tough game,

Ridiculous? What part of the fact that we have to play half of our season away from home and accrue some points are you not getting?

Our away form is awful, and everyone knows it.

Better teams will lose at Stockport Co.

Keep working on the basics and away form will sort itself out.

Of our 12 league games this season, 8 have been against sides currently in the top half and only 4 against sides currently in the bottom half.

Our 3 league wins have been against the sides currently placed 3, 8 and 24 in the league and our 2 league draws against sides currently placed 5 and 9.

Look at the list of the teams we have played away.

Stockport,
Mk dons.
Wrexham.
Barrow.

These teams won't give many points away.

We are not playing bad. Just need to be a bit more clinical and also get some of our injured players back to give us more options. We tire after 70 mins and at the moment the bench doesn't seem to offer much, maybe that is why grant makes the changes so late in the game

I'm saying it's ridiculous not to analyse every game.
Luckily im sure the club won't follow your advise, and will analyse the game .

Wrexham and Barrow have quite average home records (Barrow is same as us) and MK Dons have worse home form than us. Stockport are almost the strongest home side in League Two.

We were well in the game for 65 minutes although never really felt we ever looked likely to score.

Last 25 minutes you could feel the game getting away from us. We've recruited for 4-3-3 so none of the options on the bench really suit the current system. McCann doesn't seem to know what to do with substitutions at the moment.

And we always seem to find a way of conceding from a cross against everyone we play. So the outcome seemed somewhat inevitable.

Thought we were really good first half, frustrated them & put in a lot of hard work closing down. Second half we started well but we fell away on 70 minutes & looked inferior fitness wise. Add to that their subs helped changed the game. Overall a very decent performance up to the 70 minute mark, but maybe Faulkner coming on when they changed their strikers may have been a better option.

We worked our socks off today and deserved a point against a team that will probably finish in the top 3
GM dropped a clanger imo
When Stockport made their subs GM should have done the same
Imo he should have brought on Faulkner and moved Bailey into midfield and taken off Westbrooke as he was our week link today
We needed fresh legs earlier than 76 mins
It cost us the game.
Marsh on for Faal also a bit earlier.
Broadbent concerns me a bit as he offered very little when he came on.
But over the 1st 65 mins we were very solid and could easily have been in front but for their keeper who made 2 outstanding saves.

Some of the knee jerk reactions to every defeat are ridiculous.
It is quite clear to me we are making considerable progress as a team.
We are miles better than last season
Give GM time because he needs it and I would be very shocked if we are not top 10 by Xmas

Agree with majority of this. I would of just like to have seen deji come on for faal instead of Marsh. Deji has pace that can frighten defenders. I haven't seen enough from Marsh to show that he could of changed the game, where by when deji is thrown into an advance position he can, when he picks it up and runs he can stretch a defence

Owen Bailey was superb today MOTM for me.

Need to send Tyler Roberts back in January and get another wing back to cover Maxwell. The recruitment was based on 4-3-3. Molyneux was getting targeted today.

Also need Miller back as an option to run in behind. Was jealous watching their no.25 up top today.

We weren’t that bad though they are just a better and more settled side with home advantage. We matched them in the first half.

There doesn’t seem to be much of a rationally optimistic middle ground on this forum as of late.

Owen Bailey has been an absolute gem of a signing, and he's not even playing in the position he was signed for. We need some injuries to come back so we can move him into defensive midfield to break up the play.

Thought we were good for 65 mins or so but the goal was coming. Their subs were the game changer and with injuries we lack that a bit.  We're still miles better than last year but the big moments decide tight games.

We are more than good enough to get up the top it wasn't too bad today and they nicked it.

Thought again the ref was terrible though, ironside was wrestled the whole game and didn't get one foul in his favour. Very poor.

Were you class clown at school? We have played 5 games away in the league. Won 1 and only lost 1 comfortably without a fight. Wind your neck in and the team will progress their away performances I am sure of it.
