Never looked like we were going to get anything here from first touch of ball but conceding 3 tonight has been shocking. There is no point complaining about it because it's never going to change but the defensive unit is pretty much consistently poor. Generally they always concede. Tonight has been embarrassing defensively.

We need to sort the defence out in the transfer window, we have looked ok in parts but soon as they attack they look like scoring everytime

At least it’s not a cross into his head this time. Jones has to do better there, though, it was a soft shot hat he just palmed straight out to Smith.

Shame as we’ve played pretty well at times tonight. Individual mistakes and a failure to do even the basics of defending have cost us. Again.

Jones took it well with his right hand for the near post shot but palmed it straight on to Smith.

They have done a very good job on us. If it wasn't for our total inability to handle the most predictable player on the pitch, they will not have done much damage. We've huffed and puffed and had some good play and possession but never really looked like properly threatening. Not a disaster but certainly a night to forget. Hopefully next season Smith has retired or moved on. Can't stand seeing his face ever again here.

We’ve been unlucky on goal but while ever we defend so poorly, we will struggle to climb this league, injuries or not.

If we had somebody. Anybody. Who could cross a ball and find one of our own players we might do a bit better.

Can't fault the effort & endeavour, let down defensively by the 2 centre halves. When a carthorse like Smith gets a hatrick, you know there are defensive frailties.

Jones is glued to his line, I’d be very surprised if he’s not dropped Saturday.

No need to totally dismantle the side. Every thing we’ve done wrong in this game we’ve been punished for. Having said that we seem to let a lot of goals in when Olowu comes into the side.

We haven’t faced anybody as good as Smith at what he does in our run of good results. Before the game concentration should have been, whatever we do, no crosses come into that box. If they do the goalkeeper has to be ready to take charge of the situation.

Big problem is …. In training we probably score from every cross we put in. Lulling us into believing we’re good at crossing.

I think you just have to accept that this is where we are atm- we have improved a lot in the last few weeks but we are still a class below the better teams in this division

We could play another 9 hours and we wouldn't be scoring. Some games are like that, which is fine. The issue is that we have then conceded 3 soft as shit goals, having been bullied by some massive knuckle dragger. The former is frustrating but the latter is embarrassing.

We certainly weren’t a class below tonight, nor were we against Crawley, Gillingham, Stockport, Wrexham, Swindon etc etc

Not a lover of Wood, but I doubt very much he would have given Smith such an easy ride. Thought Nixon was excellent, also thought Biggins needs to up his game, poor tonight.

Must admit to having higher expectations of Wood being the big man. Saw quite a lot of him in early games getting bullied around. The whole unit is piss weak when it comes to playing the big lad.

Got to say, they kept the ball better than us, took their chances better than we did. For all the chances we had I don’t think their keeper was unduly troubled all night. Thought our goal was on side and should have been given. If it had I’m sure we’d have taken at least a point tonight.

Onwards and upwards on to Saturday

Take it and move on. We didn't play that badly, created lots that we didn't make the most of and fell in to their trap, though I thought their crosses were very good aswell whereas ours were not.

We won't win every game and something to learn from.

3 shots on target, 3 goals. We move on.
…and no effective goalkeeper - in contrast to which our opponents did have a goalkeeper who actually moved off his line, caught the ball and was an integral part of their defence.
