James Cleverley took 18 members of staff (must have been a big briefcase) on a nice little jolly visiting countries in the Caribbean and South America in May (nice weather there that time of year I understand. Ostensively the purpose of the trip was to discuss climate change and 'climate breakdown'.

To undertake this trip Mr Cleverley decided he required an Embraer Lineage 1000E – one of the world's most luxurious “Succession-style” charter jets that comes with “a lounge area with big-screen TV and a master suite for its main VIP, complete with a queen-size bed, private bathroom and shower”, and normally charted by billionaires and pop stars (of which Mr Cleverley is neither.)

You can all feel proud walking to the match today that £420 000 of your tax money has gone to fund the travel (accommodation was extra) of Mr Cleverley and his entourage on their nice sunny jolly.

What they achieved with it can be found here:

Truss matched him for "front" Johnson much the same and spaffed a load of money on the Plane he used being resprayed

At least the new "Royal Yacht" the Royal family said they didn't even want which was proposed by Pinocchio Johnson seemed to fall out of contention when he fell out of contention

At least that vanity project as Sunak called it saved us 250 million , which of course would have gone up

Thinking of that figure for a floating Embassy makes Cleverleys 420,000 jaunt look even WORSE

Don't forget how much Sunak is costing using helicoptors and jets just to nip out for a pint of milk from the local CO-OP
£500k in 6 weeks just before Easter recess and how much since?

Yep, it has and it will continue in the future.
How much was half a million quid twenty years ago worth in todays money.

Edit for those who might not want to acknowledge:
£500000 twenty years ago is worth around £885000 according to the Bank of England inflation calculator.
And from the days of Mr Blairs soirées in 1997 it equates to £940000 in todays money.

Really, they were taking flights to discuss the 'green agenda' years ago? Even before the pledges at COP 26 - who knew!

And interesting you think the party who preached 'austerity' and condemned their predecessors spending are just the same as them.

But Labour....

Strange isn't it, how folk want to compare apples and solid gold bananas.

The example Wilts gives is of ONE trip where the flight alone cost £420,000.

Glos says "it's been going on for years" and gives as evidence the fact that 25 years ago, senior Labour officials spent £500,000 in total (travel, accommodation etc,) on 360 trips.

Does the difference really need pointing out?

"Still" going on?

You might want to do a bit of research before you repost stuff from a conspiracist who fires off a batshit tweet every 90 seconds.

I despair at how easily people are misled into what they want to believe.

That'd be the first time I've ever heard of the public footing the bill for a private jet for a member of the Opposition.

A quick look on Google showed this:

It might be denounced as untrue by the usual suspects.

As I said they’re all at it have been for years even Keith at the CPS

"They are all at it"?

Referring back to the OP, to save me having to read that piece you  linked to Glos, can you point me to where it says Starmer took a £420,000 trip to the Caribbean in a luxury private jet?

A bit of a stretch comparing what Starmer claimed in 5 years to what Cleverley claimed in one trip and purporting it to be the same thing.

But then Tory supporters will clutch any straw they can at the mo.

Just to emphasise how f**king awful that Twitter account is:

Between 7:28 and 11:40 this morning, the account posted FIFTY tweets, nearly all of them firing unsubstantiated abuse at Labour politicians.

This disgusting slur is an example.

https://x.com/theblade113/status/1718928243326063053?s=20

For the record, the suggestion that there had been guidance about not prosecuting child sex offenders came from an ex-CPS official in an interview in2018. He said there had been instructions on that score from the Home Office under Labour in 2008.

Problem is, the particular circular is available in the National Archives and says nothing of the sort. The ex-CPS guy is on record as musing that the guidance may have come from a civil service memo, which the Home Secretary, nevermind Brown as PM, would have been unaware of.

But the disgusting piece of shit who runs that Twitter account says that Brown himself told police forces not to prosecute child sex offenders.

Brown never said those words.

He never said anything remotely like those words.

There is zero evidence that he would have been anything other than repulsed by anyone thinking on those lines.

Glos. Have a think who you're listening to, eh? There are people who get paid to feed that sort of shit into the heads of the gullible. It's up to you if you choose to be gullible.

It's not half as funny as trying to pretend that £50,000 a year is anything like £420,000 for just one journey.

Someone should have a serious look at how much all these lost whips are costing the tax-payer too!
