Maxwell and Nixon

Two superb, attacking full backs/wing backs.

I wish Nixon was ours, I hope conversations are going on about that.

And give Maxwell a long term contract.

We can build a team around these two for years to come.

Maxwell has an abundance of quality - his technique is just a level above everyone else.

He’s just one of those players I think would suit league 1/champ with better quality players.

Totally agree, if TN could cross a ball we would have no chance of securing his signature. Work in progress and will play at a higher level.

Nixon looks knackered in the warm up, great full back though with a great engine

Rovers have credited Maxwell with the first goal.

When he was summarising on iFollow commentary last season it was obvious that he could read the game and he’s putting that ability into action; a great asset.

Agree and think there could be more to come from both of them. Once they get more belief and get some shots off to reward their driving runs,  I believe they could be one the best wing back parings in the div.

Maxwell is very good in the wing back role.

Nixon is good and always puts in 100% effort. But Molyneux is better.

I think Nixon is in the same boat as Bailey.

We could have two very classy defenders or two average midfielders.....

Both excellent players for us, but until our second goal their crossing (along with the others) was awful last night. They worked some great positions put final ball was lacking. Something to work on.

Agreed, Cramby. All our wide players have been wasteful with the final ball this season.

Agree with this, it's been so frustrating. So often we get into a good position in the final third and the shot, cross or pass is below par. There's a real lack of willingness to take a risk and play a killer ball through as well. And yet when Moly put that cross in for Faal it was almost perfect and we get a goal, just shows you. As GMc says in his interview, we've got to be better in the final third, we've two very good strikers and if we get the ball into them we'll score.

When was the last time we permanently signed any former loan player !

If you discount Tommy Rowe's signing in summer 2021 after being both a permanent Rovers player and a loanee previously, then the last two examples would be Cameron John and Jason Lokilo in summer 2020.

I dont get how on crosses from in-play we seem to always go in low and this ends up being batted away so easily. I dont know if it's a flawed tactic or poor execution.

You could say its a combination of slight lack of composure but both are still young and relatively inexperienced, you can see both becoming much better players in the future.

On Maxwell he looks to have gained half a yard, when you add in his very good technique then when we start to mould into a more settled and cohesive side he and Nixon will both become very much better for it.

I'd still insist in some training ground remedial works for all the players in getting balls into the box from wide areas.

How many would you want to have signed?

For every Taylor Richards, there was a Simoes, Odubeko, Woltman.

Going further back there’s Whiteman, Anderson, Butler, Sharp, Rowe etc.

Not many. And just to be clear, not something I was advocating for as a rule. Just providing the facts.

He didn’t put 100% effort in for their goal last night, looked half asleep but all in all a good player.

A bit harsh mate, the pass to the scorer was fantastic.
A genuine defence splitting pass that opened us up.

Yes he did but he had a five yard start before the passer played the ball.
The pass was exceptionally good, perfect for him to run on to and no one would have caught him up.

They've definitely got the potential to get there. We were lucky to have those two in the same team although, they had bags more experience before joining Rovers.

I loved Roberts, being so tenacious and kept coming back for more, even if wingers got the better of him, he'd work out how to stop 'em. He was bloody good on the ball too.   JO'C looked so comfortable wherever he was asked to play. Another with a great footballing brain.

I think it would be huge if we could get Nixon permanently.

Speaking to a Hull ST holder yesterday he doesn’t think Nixon gets anywhere near their squad and could see a deal being done.

Let’s hope he’s right.

As wing backs, yes.; but as full backs, surely it has to be Quinn and Spurr.

No because JC and GR played as full backs in a flat back 4 90% of the time.
GR was the best defensive full back we have ever had at Rovers that’s since 1975 imo.
Tommy Spurr was good but not as good as Roberts.
JC was ahead of Quinn in defence and way ahead in attack imo

We are never likely to see a better pair than those 2 SOD had at his disposal. Oh happy days they were.
Quinn and Spurr were excellent don’t get me wrong. Great professionals did the simple things well. New how to defend and were part of a very functional team with a great work ethic and team spirit.

You've misunderstood the semantics, Camps. Swinton said SINCE O'Connor and Roberts.
