It better be on, we are a third of the way from Cornwall . Odd that no news to say the game id definitely on, but assuming that is good news rather than bad.

They have had lamps out on the pitch during the last few nights to make sure the game is on. I set up at Peterborough parkrun this morning and the soil was not as hard as concrete when putting up the finished tunnel. It was quite soft.

TV game Alfreton v Walsall called off while teams warming up and ground full. BBC doing their pre match preview when decision made.  Dear oh dear! Gutting.

Utterly utterly disgusting. Someone should be held accountable for that.

Seems Alfreton and the ref were ready to play but the Walsall players didn't fancy it.

"Somebody just said to (Alfreton manager) Billy Heath "Are you happy Bill?", and that was after the protective sheets had come off the pitch, and he said "Yeah, we’re happy but they don’t want to play".

Decision on whether the game goes ahead can be down to one or other of the teams?  Surely not right.  I understand the difficulty around liability and it would take balls to insist that the game be played but surely there has to be penalties for the club that brought this about at such a late stage.

By the sounds of it the BBC pushed for a late decision, the ref said the pitch was unplayable at 10:30

Maybe. This is what BBC reported at 12:30

"We can report that despite the freezing temperatures in Derbyshire overnight, the pitch at North Street has been passed fit to play - for now.

Here we see the team of officials having a very pensive look at the surface!

The players are warming up on the pitch, but we have word that the game is not 100% certain to begin.

With no undersoil heating, it has been quite an effort to make sure the pitch has been looked after ahead of the club's big day"

Hope those covers are off at London Road now.

I seem to remember seeing something like them in the goal area in front of the south stand a few years ago,

I think they were UV lamps, Hound to promote grass growth in the centre of goal.  Don't think they do anything to counter the effect of frost.

Weren't they confiscated lamps from illegal cannabis farms?
