When my lad was 5 I took him to a Panto at the Civic.
Ian Lavender was the star. At one point he looked at my lad and invited him on the stage. He sang a song with him and afterwards had his photo taken with him.
He was lovely and kind.

He was patron at a local animal rescue centre/charity not too far from me and was genuinely hands on and generous with his time and money. I attended an open day fund raiser and he was there and had time for everyone and never seemed to be remotely frustrated by the fact everyone wanted to talk about Dad’s Army and the ‘don’t tell him Pike’ sketch. He seemed like a genuinely nice bloke.
