Anderson and Wood
« on February 18, 2024, 07:52:28 pm by Branton Rover »
The template for success is there for all to see, two defensive colossus’s in the mould of Jones & McCombe. Any fears of playing them together have been allayed, it just goes to show in this division strength is more important than guile. This coupled with young legs in midfield our upturn of form has been quite remarkable, to such an extent whereby fans are now clamouring for tickets to see us on the road. Long may it continue.

Move back to a flat back 4 is just as important imo. But yes they have been super over the last couple of games.

Thank you, being saying this along with a few others and we got battered. Too slow and all that, these two have experience they’re brave and understand the game.

There was nothing slow about the passing out from the back yesterday.
The first goal came about by slick one touch passing which took out six players who were trying to high pressure us.

They are slow, they will be caught out every now and again but gimme 2 solid defenders every week, McGrath and Faulkner are younger versions of these lads... Olowu is gonna be better or worse than them - it's down to him. But the 2 veterans are what we've needed all along (and Bailey in midfield)

Glad they’ve had a couple of good games but there has been a season up to this point where it’s not worked. Hopefully this is the start of a better run with confidence.

But for god sake let’s not go offering contracts and making big decisions off the back of a couple of good games.

Anderson in team of the week. The last time we had a pairing was Anderson and Butler. So it appears Anderson likes to have an experienced left sided centre half next to him. Let’s see how far this partnership goes hopefully till the end of the season.
We now have a dependable keeper behind them aswell.

Anderson was great Saturday. Much better than midweek. Wood wasn’t great I don’t think.

Thought Wood was alright personally but what do I know. Seemed to win most of his duels and stopped a couple of good breaks. Anderson was one of the top performers on the day though.

Still think we need a clear out in the summer defensively. I would be looking for a longer-term option to replace Wood, and I think Anderson could do with a fresh start as well.

Played 3 teams in and around us and all of a sudden these 2 are the saviour. Ironside & Bailey apart has any player in our squad managed to sustain a decent level of form over a prolonged period and at the same time managed to remain injury free?! You could also include Molyneux in that, I appreciate his end product is frustrating at times but can't fault his work rate and durability.

Agreed. We are improved for sure. But in the first half Grimsby had a couple of really clear chances which they scuppered. We rode our luck a little (which you have to do I suppose)!

Rawson at Morecambe is a similar type of defender but younger.
Out of contract at the end of the season and came through the ranks at Derby.

I reckon Anderson and Wood are the first CB pairing we have had that share their names with England’s contemporary opening bowling partnership

Don't forget our own Chris Balderstone.

I'm sure there was a cricketer with the same name.
